Ok, we've all gotten used to the fact that there is at least one judge at almost every single card who as one friendly drill sergent would have said "The best part of them rolled down the crack of their momma's ass and ended up as a brown stain on the mattress." So I have devised a way to eliminate said fucked up scores for a fight.
First of all. 5 Judges per fight. You are usually using 7-10 judges per card anyway, so keep them more active during the night.
Secondly, a member of the commission will take the score card for each judge after each round.
Third. Now here's the part where it gets interesting. The three majority cards for that round are the ones that get picked. If three judges score 10-9 for Fighter A, and two score 10-9 for fighter B then you take away the scores for figthter B.
And Last of all, have all 5 judges at different points around the octagon. They are all getting different viewpoints, and may pick up on action they may have missed elsewhere.
I think this could prevent a lot of potential robberies. It's one thing for 2 of 3 guys to fuck up, but the likelehood of 3 of 5 fucking up is quite a bit less.
The UFC should just make an app where we can vote on who's winning. Voting can last for up to 48 hours after an event, the winner will be notified by mail within 6-8 weeks. It's just so simple.
The system is filled with idiots. I'm pretty sure the solution isn't to introduce more idiots into the system and make it more complicated. Fighters should consider going to a decision to be a partial failure, with the ultimate goal of always finishing. Rather than being the end goal like lots of modern fighters seem to game it. You put yourself at the mercy of the judges by coasting or being safe, you get what you deserve: the slot machine of incompetence that is modern judging. Obviously there are times where two guys try to finish and it just doesn't happen. Unfortunate things happen from time to time. But for the most part, going to a decision should come with some kind of potential for negative consequence.
There's never going to be a solution that satisfies everyone anyways. Read any thread on any fight and you'll see some people swearing that 100/100 times that fight should have been scored one way, while other people go the other way. Like every sport in existence, when judgement calls are made, people will disagree.
