Created a thread about Strikeforce being dumb

...and somehow it got lost...but heres the summary of a long post that i somehow erased...

This draw the day of weigh ins is the dumbest thing I have ever seen in years...

For alot of reasons but just one in particular that is glaringly obvious to me and people in my industry....

To not have matchups pre set so that 1000+ sportsbooks might pick up the bouts the week of / or the event and to not recognoize that there is  a predictive relationship that can be exploited in practice to gain viewers is mind boggling to me.

I for one cant stand strikeforce cards outside a few matchups beacuse I think the entire organization is snake bit and suffers from the elite xc curse but you would think they would look at every possible angle to get people to watch this stuff.

To think the NFL Sunday Ticket exists so guys in NY or LA can watch the Browns play the Bengals in 6 feet of snow if they dont have an interest or stake on it is almost as ignorant.

I'm thrilled to not have to do the work on the tourney today..but the millions of people that wont even entertain betting on it still visit the 1000's of gaming sites and would have at last seen it listed and possibly tuned in and wondered what it was all about...

Short of it is you dropped the ball gunsmoke. People love tournaments and its unfortunate these ladies wont get the extra exposure they may have if whoever has a brain thought outside the box.

MAIN CARD

  • Joe Riggs vs. Louis Taylor

  • Ryan Couture vs. Lucas Stark

  • Hitomi Akano vs. TBA (135-pound tournament bout)+

  • Carina Damm vs. TBA (135-pound tournament bout)+

  • Maiju Kujala vs. TBA (135-pound tournament bout)+

  • Miesha Tate vs. TBA (135-pound tournament bout)+

I wonder how so many people out there have money and hang onto it....  and believe me...its not like people would be running out double fisted to bet this stuff..but the exposure and legitimacy it brings to an event when odds are posted on it brings legitimacy to it.

Its not about the gambling money people.....to me its just common fuking sense...

"I think the entire organization is snake bit and suffers from the elite xc curse"

Indeed. Good post Oddessa.

Ironically, having the tournament draw so close to fight night is the "thinking outside the box" scenario here, and having a predetermined draw is the status quo. Obviously you have a point about how it will be impossible to put out a line ahead of time, but in this case I don't know if that is such a big deal. Do you typically see a lot of action on 135lb female fights on SF Challengers cards?

TTT....Oddessa knows what he is talking about.

just put lines out on all possibilities.  There's only 4 fighters, each has 3 possible opponents instead of 1.  6 lines become 2 as soon as the pics are announced.

Example: Fighters A B C D

Possible Fights:  AB , AC, AD, BC, BD, CD

Not too hard

Its about exposure and bringing legitimacy to an event. I could tell you horror stories from boxing to mma events that I wont even offer. Look how many people visit gaming websites daily. Google two obscure boxers that you never heard of fighting this week. You will get 10,000 pages from  casinos world wide that list their names and odds.

Just last saturday....google... Christian Esquivel    Tshifhiwa Munyai ...two guys 99.99% of planet  never heard of...a mexican vs african in mexico....27,900 results  ...many gambling related....it as boxing match...

Exposure.

I know what I'm talking about  gentlemen. Been doing this shit for years...

 well stated..

Why would i want to do the extra work...and honestly.....LOL @ you coming with  "not that hard"...how about you make odds and i bet you...lol...you will be laundering your money with the change in  my cars ashtray.....time is money and.....besides I got better stuff to do with my time like bitch on the UG with u guys...and tell  strikeforce why they couldnt spot a life raft in a kiddy pool.

I just wont offer it....I need money like Andrson Silva  needs an extra 2 minutes...I dont....I'm just pointing out something that is glaringly obvious to me.  Just like I was critical of the new UFC.tv website.  I didnt like it..think its too busy...and non fan friendly...

People can sympathize with the way this org has been run all you want.....and I am a huge supporter of womens mma...but this is just plain fuking stupid on so many levels...starting with no seeding if thats  what they are  doing.....

I agree with Oddessa on this---

The NFL Ticket exists because of gambling--no question about that.

It draws interest and exposure--that too in indisputable.

You can be completley against gambling and those points still remain true

I don't know how it works, I don't bet, but wouldnt it be easier to just put odds on who would win the tournament? or can it not be done like that?

Oddessa - Just like I was critical of the new UFC.tv website.  I didnt like it.

I hate that fucking website. It was perfect before and now it's all screwed up. I wish they would just delete that shit and go back to the old site.

My god this Odessa.

It speaks to me.

liquidrob - I don't know how it works, I don't bet, but wouldnt it be easier to just put odds on who would win the tournament? or can it not be done like that?

^  you could....but...what if..with no seeds....the top 2 fighers fight first bout...

....recent tourneys that come to mind where a sportsbook got hammered...and i did extremely personally was the Grand Prix that Mousassi pulled out of  and Minowa won it and a K-1 Tourney where I think it was Kohi or maybe Kid pulled out at very last minute. The books were sleeping and the top seed was out.

I extremely dislike small events and think some sportsbooks are completely irresponsible offering odds on them when guys are nmaking 2/2 and wagering limits exceed purses.

Again..as Mace said..this has ZERO to do with gambling or the benifit of money for the sportsbooks. We may only write 20 bets max..but 1000 of casinos would copy the odds and it would get more global exposure...

Just an observation I made when sharpening my pencil.

and this is just one guys opinion sitting in middle of a city surrounded by rainforrests...so take it with a grain of salt...wtf do I know... I've never even been to Las Vegas or been west of Iowa City   <- 100% fact

I have no bizness degree, marketing degree, or specialty in advertising. I wanted to be a HS History teacher...and wrestling coach... I just see things different than the common man. Its  just me....

You aren't wrong Oddessa. Matter of fact, you couldn't be more right. Strikeforce lacks the competent management it needs to succeed, I have been sitting here watching them make bad decision after bad decision and basically self destructing for months now. It is nothing we haven't seen dozens of times before with these smaller orgs. They all seem to follow the same pattern on the way up and on their way down. Soon enough, Strikeforce will be gone. And a new "We're gonna run MMA and beat the UFC at their own game" org will surface, and then we will watch them follow the same path.

It's like they all refuse to learn from the mistakes of those who came before them. Which dooms them to repeat those mistakes. It's actually sad to watch because Strikeforce had potential.

Edit: nevermind

They started MMA in 2006. Kickboxing is a completely different "And Dead" game.

I think listening to Sonnen week after week leading up to last week has got me in negative criticism mode since he had nothing good to say about anyone or anything...and if I'm coming off that way..my apologies..because I just wanna express my thoughts on this event...

My orginal post was more structured and thought out with examples but I was so pissed when I hit POST that I just got tad aggravated and took a more aggresive shortcut approach as opposed to contructive criticism.

I  really do love womens mma and I am looking forward to the Fugii fight in Bellator 2mmrow more than any other bout on the card.  I was looking forward to doing the work on the card but   the format changes and draws after weigh ins are just a turnoff for me.

You gotta stop reinventing the wheels and maintain a structure.

With now two   3 minute rounds do we get an asterik  *  next to these womens name on fight finders.

Are they a true indication oif who the best fighter is?

Would Chael Sonnen be champ if its was only 3 rds...and so on...
