Creatine and weight gain???

I have added creatine to my daily supplements. I undersatnd the "benefits", one of them being weight gain.....right?

The only problem with this is competition. I hate cutting weight. Because of this disdain, my weight is always in the back of my mind. I know it is only 5lbs +/- but for those that have to cut weight an extra 5lbs can feel like 100!

My understanding is that the initial weight you "put on" is simply water retention. Correct?

Is this something that it temporary? Will the added intesity of my workouts aid in fat burning and equal this out?

I would also like to know your opinions on creatine as a whole.

Thanks

on the whole, i feel like it is an excellen supplement

A lot of it is water retention

The added capacity for work will not burn off more fat and balance out your weight.

When you are cutting get off the creatine.

I prefer creatine ethyl ester, but creatine monohydrate has dropped in price and is cheaper than dirt.

a great deal of the wt will probably be water gain

although that might not be a bad thing as the water is usually intracellular. Some authorities have suggested the intramusular heigthened water storage could enhance protein synthesis and negate high levels of breakdown (although this is purely speculative). Has also been shown to be a lacatate acid buffer in some cases
