Take it for what you will…
From a PR perspective, it probably wouldn’t be a bad idea for them to get out ahead of it. I know that Andrew Yang, who is currently running for NYC mayor, has targeted both WWE and UFC in past years with heavy criticism and threats of what he’d do if he ever was appointed to the country’s Labor department. These threats of course used to never really have much credibility under past administrations that had a friendlier disposition towards those two businesses, but nowadays, who knows.
And besides, it’s the right thing to do. Even if UFC doesn’t foot the entire bill for it, there’s little doubt in most people’s opinions that they should at least have somewhat of a role.
We’ll see what happens. Dana of course could have meant nothing by that tweet, too.
What companies extend benefits after their employees leave?
They are doing good enough right now for providing benefits.I don`t think any other promotion does this.
Well. Most sports do.
Honestly pooling all of the fighters together for basic health care would barely cost them an employee to administer. Even if they took all of the premiums out of the employees checks.
After they leave ufc it’s a little trickier but if the other big sports leagues can figure it out, it’s not rocket science.
Its going to decrease the careers of the fighters in the UFC but they need to do it.
After Diego and the talks of not having brain scans / verification he’s ok, the UFC probably needs to take a more aggressive approach protecting themselves against future lawsuits.
Fighters definitely need health care, but it will likely introduce new mandatory checks that not all fighters will pass (and honestly, if they cant, they probably shouldn’t be fighting anyways).
Its good news, but it will change a lot of things.
They will continue to make money off of you for years after they release you due to their “we own your likeness”, benefits should follow.
But the truth is that it will likely only happen 5 minutes after medicaid for all passes.
WHOOPS! Dana didn’t mean to say that at all. Just having a good laugh now at the thought of actually providing health benefits to fighters.
There not employees, yet think there entitled to benefits…
