It’s Dana White looking to sell a Jon Jones fight. Aside from McGregor, they don’t have many unapologetic English speaking stars they can build an interest around inside and, more importantly, outside of the Octagon. I mean, and this may come as a shock to many American fighters, a post-win interview with “I fight to put food on my family’s table!” isn’t something the UFC marketing department can work with. Jon Jones and McGregor, however, they’re marketable polarizing guys that draws people from both ends of the spectrum: people that pay to see them win and people that pay to see them lose. Compare to Stipe, a promo with him is like “this is Stipe, he’s part-time firefighter, part-time unspectacular fighter, and he doesn’t talk much.” Losing Brock Lesnar is the worst thing that ever happened to the UFC.
Ive honestly wondered that for years, ever since Dana made excuses for ducking Chael on short notice having to cancel 151 and moving the entire fucking event for another. Makes no sense with Danas past attitude regarding fighters. Its bizarre
