Whether he wants the ufc to truly be considered a sport or entertainment. He can't try and promote it as the next best sport while he complains about boring fights and pressures fighters to put on exciting fights. That's part of the game and it happens sometimes, he shouldn't be bashing somebody like askren who always manages to win but isn't exciting. That's not the way a true sport works. Its okay in my opinion to do that but only if he acknowledges it as an entertainment business.
It seems like it's struggling to make the jump from mainstream to a real big boys' sport like NFL, NHL, MLB or whatever.
FinestScotch - So you like boring fights.
Okay.
No, I don't, but my point is they happen. And when there's a bad baseball game or the super bowl sucks you don't see the nfl or mlbs president bashing on specific teams or individual guys to the media. That doesn't happen. There's a level of professionalism in those sports that is lacking the UFC in my opinion if it wants to be a true sport. I think that's partially the reason for the low ratings on fox. People aren't sure what to make of it yet.
or maybe im too dumb to get your point
The NFL was started in 1920, the UFC has plenty of time to catch up ;)
oh, and i dont watch football or any sports like that but i love cars and music! but BB is a ridiculous NFL freak and i hear the facts everytime the fuckin cowboys play.
Sports are a sub-sect of entertainment lol

Right, I just guess I think they hurt themselves sometimes by taking a personal view as a company. Ie slamming jones after that debacle, or trash talking Roy Nelson, the guy you have on your own reality show. Just seems weird to watch a president talk bad about his own employees publicly.

What you seem to be failing to realize is that MMA (Well, the UFC) has taken a WWE business model, the bulk of revenue comes from PPV sales. If you're going to do that, you need excitement.
You think the NFL would be where it is if you had to pay to watch each game at 50 bucks a piece? lol

Would you rather have a puppet running the show that acts not pissed off when he really is? i mean shit he was pissed im sure anyone would be but time heals all wounds my friend, and all we can do is move forward and support the sport we love!
I'm w/ creepy on this one. I am of the opinion that the fans are holding the sport back, not Dana. We are supposed to be trying to spread the sport and get people to like it as much as us. But everyone spends too much time bitching about the latest thing Dana or Jones said. No one is holding mma back as much as its fans. Those that train get it, those that don't, dont
It can be both. But not evey athlete can do both.

The NFL packs stadiums every week with fans who pay PSL's or Personal Seat Licenses in most places.
Not rich fans, either.
Often blue collar.
However, they care so much they will fork over thousands for season tickets even though with 8 regular season games and 2 preseason games the odds are high all won't be exciting.
With 32 teams the odds are higher their team will NOT win it all or in some cases such as Browns, Raiders, etc. that they won't even have a chance.
So, yeah, fans do pay to see the games.
The last 3 of 4 UFC PPV events have done 150K PPV buys each NATIONALLY.
The Baltimore Ravens packed in 70K last week for one game.
That's one city on one Sunday that drew more fans than UFC 147 or UFC 149 did PPV buys.
Dana cannot even dare say he is competing with the NFL.
Nor should he.
His model follows that of WWE and just like WWE crashed following the mega boom of the Monday Night War era; the UFC is now in a valley compared to the peak that was around UFC 100.
ssj - How come in a world of 7billion people 1million PPV's is great? thats miniscule.
Does the entire world order PPV's?
Pretty sure its free in most countries, so 1 million buys is a lot of cash haha
When I watched this TUF episode I got the feeling DFW was acting like the fans who boo as soon as a fight hits the ground.
Yes, we all want exciting fights but a LITTLE patience isn't too much to ask is it?
Yes, Dana has changed a lot in this regard over the years. He wants to be a kickboxing promoter now. Hates grappling. He used to give the fans shit for "having ADD". Now he gives the fighters shit for protecting themselves in the fight.

Know what else those leagues do? Change the rules to make the sport more exciting.
Entertainment is the #1 point of all sports PERIOD.
When's the last time the NFL changed a rule to make the game more exciting? They're changing rules to be safer for the players. If anything the recent rule changes make the game less exciting.
