Dana owns you morons

All I ever hear is how Dana is such a douche. His shitty, watered-down cards with one good fight you're expected to pay $60 for twice a month. His trash-talking of the fighters. His bullying tactics.

Now here he is, throwing Jones under the bus and you idiots are buying it.

This card is cancelled for no other reason than that Jon Jones was the only fighter worth seeing on it. Dana is the one cancelling the card. He is cancelling it because it is a terrible, terrible card -- the kind you all complain about and say you'd rather they just sacked and combined the fights onto fewer, better cards -- because that is the way he and his staff put it together.

Jon Jones is one of the most exciting fighters and champions in the sport. He is currently on the best run in the sport's history. He wants to fight often and he finishes his opponents. He signed a contract to fight Dan Henderson, whom many consider a dangerous opponent, and, through no fault of his own, that contract is now void. He does not want to sign a new contract to fight a new opponent on a week's notice, for whatever reason. If it were reasonable to expect a fighter, even or especially a champion, to fight anyone at all on a moment's notice, the contracts would be to fight on a given event, not to fight a given fighter. They are not.

Because Dana is pissed at the money he is losing by having to scrap his worthless card, he is blaming Jones for it. To draw attention away from the fact that he was pushing a terrible card, exactly like the boxing cards he routinely blasts -- a card with literally only one fight that anyone wants to see on it. To draw attention away from the fact that there is no backup plan as far as other fights or other contenders go.

He's threatening to strip Jones of his title, even though Jones defended it twice last year -- after winning it the same year -- and already defended it once so far this year. Since when the fuck is turning down a new, entirely undeserving challenger on 8 days' notice something a champion should be stripped for? This would be a complete NON-ISSUE if it weren't such a bad card that it has to be scrapped.

How the fuck do Dana's financial failures become legitimate reasons to interfere with the title of the 100% proven, rightful champion, and everyone goes along with it?

Since when does a guy who has beaten the toughest string of competition ever become a coward, instantly, for turning down a short notice change of opponent to one who surely everyone must agree is far less of a threat than his original opponent, or the opponent (Machida) he will be fighting instead?

pretty much agree.

feel bad for the other fighters on the card though, even though it was weak.

There was a man who had a dog and B-I-N-G-O was his name-o

JBJ is not a coward, he simply had a chance to step up and save a card.

Taking the Sonnen fight would've greatly benefited the company that's helped make him a star, his fellow fighters in 151, his fans who paid to see him and even his new sponsor.

Instead, he said no.

FRAT. Why wouldn't he take the fight? He's been through a full training camp... makes no sense. He will never be in the talks of the "greatest ever" now. Pathetic.

forrestfan - pretty much agree.

Yes, but fans (and other fighters) blaming their loss of income on Jones are out of their fucking minds. Dana can have the card anyway and take a loss; he can pay the fighters anyway and take a loss. He is the boss and he is the one taking away their paychecks, not Jones. Jones is honoring his contract.

"Dana owns you morons"

Are you sure?

It is on the UFC for having a one fight card but they went into scramble mode to save the card, had a replacement set to save the card and Jones turned it down.

Despite what you think of the card they tried to save it, had a plan to save it, had the fighter lined up to save the card and Jones said no.

So Jones has to take blame for the killing of this card, he cant take all the blame, UFC has to take alot of it, probably more than half the blame but Jones cant get off free and clear on this.

UFC did try to save the card and had Jones accepted the fight it would have saved the card but he didnt.

"What, Jon Jones is too PUSSY to fight Chael Sonnen in 8 days notice?!"

What a coward to choose to fight LYOTO MACHIDA over Chael Sonnen.

Both Machida and Chael had their fights finished in the 2nd round of their last fights respectively.

Machida won at lhw against a top lhw, Chael lost against the top MIDDLEWEIGHT.

Yet fans are in an uproar over Jones b/c he's denying Chael but accepting Lyoto. Oh what a coward huh

in fairness, i think this was a somewhat palatable card before kos went down with injury. could they have not found a more suitable co-main replacement than hieron?

Galanis - You have a good point but IMO you are attacking Dana too much. Hopefully the UFC learns and stops with these shitty 1 fight cards. Look at UFC 84.. That was only 4 years ago. If the title fight on there was scrapped people would still show up in droves. Cards used to be stacked ALL the time :(

I would maybe be criticizing, but not attacking, Dana for the weak cards and poor planning that lead to a card having to be scrapped due to the loss of one fight.

But he 100% deserves to be attacked for turning that failure into a full-on smear campaign against Jon Jones, in what is at best an emotional, spontaneous defensive reaction to his own botch, or at worst a calculated attempt to turn criticism away from himself by targeting someone else.

This 100%

Sorry but Jon made a very selfish move.

I've always liked and backed him but I think I lost some love for him today Phone Post

Fuck both of em haha, only one thing i am a bigger hater than of Dana and his tactics is Jon Jones hahahahaha.

he didn't "choose" machida over sonnen. he turned down sonnen for one day, and was basically forced into accepting machida on a different day

Sorry, he is already one of the greatest ever. Unfortunately for you, that's because that describes what happens in the ring and not what happens over the telephone.

FRAT, but after skimming through I agree with you OP. Jones is taking way too much heat for this. Zuffa cancelled the card not Jon.

Orcus

Just stop this board is full of morons..... It makes my mind hurt. At some point this thread will go full retard and people will be praising chael. Phone Post

pretty much agree with everything you said

If they said "if you're won't fight Sonnen, then you have to fight Machida", and he signs to fight Machida, in what way did he not choose Machida over Sonnen? They said "you have to take one of these two fights" and the took Machida over Sonnen.
