Dana says GSP vs Anderson Silva in the works - Vid

This is wrong imo. Georges and Anderson are in two completely different weight classes. This is Dana throwing away one of his top pound for pound champions for a little profit. :(

I love how the headline on BloodyElbow was "DANA WHITE CONFIRMS GSP NEXT FOR ANDERSON SILVA". Yeah, this is a confirmation.. lol

It's still Dana trying to force this fight. I really hate this shit. :(

Yes, Anderson will win. But not because he is a better technical fighter. He will win because he is twice the size of Georges. It's not a fair fight at all. A big good fighter beats a smaller good fighter every time.

I was wondering if i was going to be the only one who doesnt want this to happen. I like GSP and i think he is one of the best p4p in the world. Whether you think Silva is a step above or a step below, either way they are definately close. So when you add Silva's natural size advantage to that i have a hard time seeing how GSP is able to compete with the much larger Silva.

I think, as far as technical fighting skills go. Though they use completely different styles, I think Georges has a slight edge. But, the 30 pound difference in weight between them, erases that edge. Not to mention the height and reach difference. I think Anderson finishes him within a round or two. And it PROVES NOTHING more than a big fighter who is technically proficient will beat a smaller fighter who is relatively equally technically proficient.

This is the UFC discarding one of it's top pound for pound fighters. What a stupid move. :(

GSP has said that if he does it, it will be properly. He will add muscle and go to 185 properly to fight. His height and build is ok for 185, he can afford more size on his frame and not lose much explosion imo.

I just can't even imagine how that fight would even play out, but who else is left at 170 after Jake, really.

USA Today just picked up on this...

UFC's White: GSP-Silva 'probably' on deck if they win next bouts
By Sergio Non, USA TODAY

Vitor Belfort and Jake Shields apparently are the only obstacles in the way of an Anderson Silva - Georges St. Pierre showdown in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Silva is scheduled to defend his middleweight championship against Belfort on Feb. 6 in Las Vegas. Welterweight champion St. Pierre has a bout with Shields on April 30 in Toronto. If both titleholders retain their belts, they'll likely face each other next, UFC President Dana White said.

"That happens, then we're probably going to do that fight," White said Friday during a question-and-answer session with troops at Fort Hood, Texas. "If they both win, that fight makes all the sense in the world."

White believes that St. Pierre and Silva have proven everything they need to prove as champions. Before St. Pierre's win over Josh Koscheck in December, White said the 170-pound titlist had already "cleaned out" the welterweight division.

Silva has a 12-0 record in UFC, mostly at 185 pounds. St. Pierre has gone 9-0 over the last three-and-a-half years, including eight title fights.

While Silva occasionally fights at a higher weight class as a novelty, St. Pierre won't move up a division unless it's a long-term change, because he believes he needs to put on more muscle to be competitive at middleweight. He normally weighs roughly 190 pounds except when he sheds water to make the official limit for a fight.

Most middleweights carry more than 200 pounds in peak condition. In extreme cases, such as Silva, a man who officially fights at 185 pounds can reach 220 or more when he isn't training.

There is no better example of a fighter who is finely tuned for his weight class in all of MMA than Georges St Pierre. He is not Fedor. He is not BJ Penn. He is not Randy Couture. He is Georges St Pierre and he is fighting at the right weight class and isn't built to be jumping around between classes.

And guaran-god damned-teed, that guy who asked the question was doing what he was told to do. The people who want this fight are Dana and the Fertitta's. Because it means big profit.

Georges should demand 2 million show money and 2 million win bonus for that fight. Plus a paid year off to bulk up properly.

Go Vitor!

I think FRB is spot on...GSP/Silva looks exactly like GSP/Sonnen without the hail mary sub.

And I think Vitor has a real shot at catching Anderson...I'm very curious to see if Anderson is starting to deteriorate a little physically...he's what now, 36 years old?

The greats in combat sports go up to fight the elite in other weight divisions, imagine if Manny Pacquiao was content to fight in the 110s or 120s his entire career?

Won't happen because Vitor will KO Anderson Phone Post

somewhat insensitive of Dana to wear an AK-47 t-shirt to a US military base considering that it is the gun responsible for more recent soldier deaths than any other, and is not used by our military.

Idk I think it would be better if GSP would cut to 155, but is highly unlikely :-/ Phone Post

It's like he doesn't want his champions t be.... champions for long.

Kind of goes against the whole "brand the UFC, NOT the fighters" thing.

Can't have a dominant champion for too long. One of them MUST LOSE DAMMIT!

So BLUFF can flex his wrinkled neck on many magazine covers to come... without too much competition.

Welterweight is completely wiped out after Shields.  Nobody wants to see him maul Fitch again.

That's right, because if martial arts teach you anything, it's that size trumps skill and style.

Besides, how are they both equally "good" fighters. In a sport as diverse as MMA and with styles playing such a large role, there is no way two fighters can ever be equal skill/style wise. GSP takes this fight to the ground in every round and makes it look easy. Silva's reach/size will be a disadvantage to him once Georges shoots in on him (and we've seen how much distance he can cover with is shots).
