Dana shuts Conor down once again...

who needs Conor these days

Conor is still by far the biggest draw in mma though. I just don’t get wtf he’s fling currently though

Conor does this at 170 because if he loses it doesn't affect his standing at 155. It's always been the case

same reason he never went back down to rematch Aldo at 145

See I disagree. I think Conor wants to fight at 170lbs when he can so he doesn’t have to cut weight, and it’s easier on his body. Maybe call it lazy.

However, I don’t think it makes a big difference. If both guys agree to fight at 170lbs, then what’s the hurt? Dana never cared before. All of a sudden he’s playing into what Khabib wants.

I could have sworn either Dana and/or Conor actually just said the Cowboy fight wa at 170 because he doesn’t want to do the weight cut.

I might have imagined that…

170 makes zero difference to me.  Conor and Dustin are both small LW's.  They will enter this fight at their natural weight, hydrated, and I suspect we will see the best of both of them because of this.

You can actually see it as honorable that both these guys are doing this and not trying to get a rumble advantage.

And if Conor wins fuck it, make him and khabib at 170.  Who cares about the title for the rematch.

Something has clearly changed in the relationship between these two. In the past Conor got whatever Conor wanted. Not so much these days, interesting.

Its not about pandering to khabib. You havent been paying attention

I don’t think it’s “pandering” to Khabib, but Khabib is certainly part of this. Like or not he is a star at this point. BLAF would probably rather cater to his current undefeated champ who isn’t insanely difficult to deal with, than his former golden boy ex champ who retires twice a year.

God dam Dana looks like an old weathered tomato

Yeah. Definitely a huge part of it. Congratulations !

I don’t like Conor but that’s laughably stupid.

Getting a title shot after a win over Dennis Siver

As I posted on page 1 - still Ranked #5 Lightweight even though he's 1-1 with his only win being 4 years ago

Immediate rematch against Diaz even though he was was finished and there was no reason for it

Promised another title shot at LW after beating an unranked Cerrone at WW

Turned down the Tony Ferguson fight

He's so used to getting what he wants to the point that he actually asked Dana for a fight against Diego Sanchez

Its crazy how the narrative has changed, when connor was calling the shots the UFC bent backwards to give him everything he wanted, now Khabib gets some good treatment now that hes an actual star. I totally agree that 170 would be stupid though, if you want to fight for the 155 belt you should have to make the wieght cut and win  at that weight

Khabib smashed Conor and he’s massive in Abu Dhabi which has been hosting fights and paying loads of money. That and the ESPN PPV deals means they’re not as dependant on Conor anymore.

I like Dana more than a lot of fans and think he does a lot of good in the sport but its just funny how he had to act like Conor Cowboy at WW was enough for the Khabib title fight in Jan and now ten months later he is bashing his old sales pitch and not his sale pitch from 2010 but his sales pitch from earlier in 2020.

Conor better start starving himself now

You understand prize fighting right?

And Siver just happened to be his 5th victory in a row. All knock outs except Max.

so, undefeated… killing everyone. Former 2 belt champion in other org.

fans all around the world were tuning in to see him.

how does that not equal title shot?

how does that not equal title shot?

Of course I understand it - including the fact that some fighters get preferential treatment when it means more money for the promoters. Here are the featherweight rankings going into the fight

Champion: Jose Aldo

  1. Chad Mendes

  2. Frankie Edgar

  3. Ricardo Lamas

  4. Cub Swanson

  5. Conor McGregor

  6. Dustin Poirier

  7. Dennis Bermudez

  8. Nik Lentz

  9. Charles Oliveira

  10. Dennis Siver

The #5 FW gets a title shot for beating the (obviously handpicked) #10 FW

Do you think if Siver would’ve won he would’ve gotten a shot? absolutely not, but Conor was guaranteed the shot if he beats #10. It’s all about the $$$

Conor wasn’t the first and won’t be the last fighter to get special treatment from the brass, but his was as blatant and over the top as can be, and to act like it doesn’t exist is ridiculous.

How Conor McGregor Went From Plumber To The Most Exciting ...

Edit: I almost forgot - He also received no punishment from the UFC for the bus attack at Barclays - what other fighter would still even be in the promotion after that?

Good to hear!

170 for a guy who wants to earn a title shot at 155 makes no sense.

You said earn.

Conor isn’t interested in earning anything. He just wants.

UFC for sure gives some an easier path than others, no doubt there but to be fair.... the champ had already beat #1 (2x), #2, #3 and #4 so a fresh face with a lot of support from the Euro market was a no brainer in terms of who could get the next title shot. Siver was a gift though and I'm no Conor fan.

Exactly - I'm not arguing about the title shot itself, but Siver was a handpicked gift - Conor didn't want to fight any of the top 4 so they didn't make him.
