With the recent canning of Sylvia, Dana shitting on Tito, Randy and Fedor, no respect for Lindland (the list goes on and on) what are your thoughts on UFC's loyalty to fighters who helped build them?
I think Dana blows goats, but is this just business?
The UFC does not exist without FIGHTERS, but who BUILT who? Ther's a reason there's fighters eager to get into the UFC you know... and even Tito came back.
UFC is good to the fighters that are good to them. For better or for worse, Zuffa looks at their relationship with the top fighters as more than just business. It personal with them. They pay their fighters real money and they, along with the old school fighters, have paved the way for MMA. They spent a fortune getting the sport recognized as a sport and not bloodlust.
Sylvia has made more money with the UFC then he would have EVER seen digging ditches or bouncing the day shift at the local tittie bar. I met Tito before the UFC and you might remember he was stealing money from parking meters. I don't think he needs to do that anymore. Do you think Jenna would date the 4x King of Pancrase? I don't think so.
Randy, Linland, Tito, and Sylvia have all been less than loyal to UFC and they have been spanked because of it. The UFC is the 800lb gorilla for the time being and if you are smart you don't poke a gorilla with a stick.
"...With the recent canning of Sylvia, Dana shitting on Tito, Randy and Fedor, no respect for Lindland (the list goes on and on)..."------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yup. Add Ken Shamrock, Frank Shamrock, Josh Barnett
"Lol, how many years have most of this place been calling for Dana to shitcan Sylvia?"
So true.
And I guarantee Tim asked to be released.
"Add Ken Shamrock, Frank Shamrock, Josh Barnett"
Ken Shamrock? They had him headlining at least three or four shows long past his point of relevance or competitiveness, and he made a lot of money for it.
I never really knew what the story was with Frank, what were the circumstances behind him retiring after beating Tito?
As for Barnett, he tested positive for roids and then immediately asked for a huge pay increase. How odd that they wouldn't give it to him.
This is a problem with most business owners. They think they're the ones who got their company to the top when in reality it's the damn employees that got them to where they are. Without Tito, Sylvia, Lindland, etc. the UFC would be nothing.
The same where I work, the company thinks they got themselves where they are today and have no respect or courtesy for their own employees who got them to where they are.
Everyone forgets that it's the employees who are on the front fucking line.
The generals in the Army and military get all the credit for winning a certain war or doing something but when in reality, it's the troops on the front lines that are the ones who are responsible for making sure their comrades don't die and to make sure they accomplish their mission!
"They had him headlining at least three or four shows long past his point of relevance or competitiveness, and he made a lot of money for it."
True, but obviously there are two sides to that equation.
Ken also made the UFC a shitload of money in return, where the UFC successfully capitalized on his name value long after he was no longer relevant as a top fighter - because he still had drawing power.
The fact that he did not deserve to headline events purely on sport-based merit was obviously not the UFC's primary consideration. And it certainly wasn't some favor on their part or a one-sided act of generosity.
The Ken-Tito II PPV broke PPV records (and is still the second-highest selling UFC PPV ever) and Ken-Tito III just smashed the ratings records (and is still the most watched single MMA fight in U.S. history and the second-highest rated whole event ever).
Ken's made the UFC more money than any other fighter ever has except Chuck and Tito.
"As for Barnett, he tested positive for roids and then immediately asked for a huge pay increase."
Incorrect.
He had actually already asked for the huge pay increase first.
Barnett and the UFC had already been involved in a protracted, acrimonious negotiation for a new contract and had been at an impasse before the 'roid test results came back.
" Ken Shamrock? They had him headlining at least three or four shows long past his point of relevance or competitiveness, and he made a lot of money for it. "
Headline three PPVs and One UFN
Tito v Ken 1, Ken v Kimo, Tito v Ken 2, and then Tito v Ken 3 on UFN
nocturnal- spoken like guy who is destined to work for someone else make what someone else thinks you are worth. If you don't like your job quit. Find something you are actually good at doing. Or even better, start your own company risking your own money working a grip of hours and then tell me how the employees are somehow more important than the owners.
