Daniel Puder's Kimura on Kurt Angle

Turns out that it wasn`t career suicide but the WWF demoted him to Ohio Valley Wrestling. Then later released him.

I remember that incident, Kurt Angle was pissed and embarassed.  Good thing the quick thinking ref saved his ass from tapping out.

I never understood why Puder got so much hate here.

Something is fishy because it was a wrestling match & the referee counted to 3 instead of an instant win.

They were getting out of hand beating on those guys from the Tough Enough show. I think Kurt had just beat the crap out of two other guys that weren’t as skilled as Puder. I think he broke one of the dude’s ribs. Holly kicked the shit out of that other guy who died of brain cancer for no reason. I remember Big Show hitting Daniel in the chest and slamming him into the lockers out of the blue, lol. Ridiculous shit.

Good for Daniel for standing up against that shit, but he probably ruined his chances at a career with WWE. Once you’re branded as a cocky guy with the wrong attitude it’s over at any job really. They blamed it on his lack of charisma and ability to sell a storyline or do good promos I think.

He does seem like a good guy though. Last I heard he’s a volunteer sheriff who does motivational anti-bullying type presentations for kids.

Didn't they agree to a wrestling match, not a submission match?

Yes the ref saved Angle, but Puder rightfully got hate for trying to legimitately hurt a guy by breaking the rules of a contest.

Dan didn`t break any rules. The only rules were no striking.

keylock=americana, but what Puder did was neither.  Keylock/americana the arm breaks the other way.  This was the Kimura.  It's WWE though so the announcers get a pass.  Although, if you're going to know the term keylock, you should probably also know the term kimura, and the differences of the two.

I tore my rotator cuff as a white belt going for a kimura like that. I was such a dumbass trying to lift the guy up from there and felt the tear.

I never go for a kimura from guard anymore, but I love it from the top half or side control, I’ll sacrifice position because there’s so much leverage. Even considered naming my child (middle name) Kimura because of how much I fell in love with the move. Still reliable even when I’m out of shape.

Perhaps I'm lucky b/c I learned Kimura offense/defense from the Kimura king Chris Brennan.

Kimura from bottom I have found very useful.  I was taught there are 3 basic moves everyone should always think of when in bottom guard.  Kimura/kimura sweep, elevator, and bump sweep.

Fuck, it's been a couple years since I was at the gym and now I'm starting to question if the elevator was one of the 3 lol. Maybe it was guillotine.

Good guy to learn it from. Chris truly mastered the kimura.

Puder used to spam here and never respond or reply to anyone and I don’t even know what he was trying to promote/sell. I don’t think anyone here hates him, we just didn’t get what he was doing.

lol. I remember he’d just post a pic of himself all dressed up with a couple of fine ladies. Smiling like he was living the life.

But yeah, don’t remember what the point of it all was. Almost seemed like a troll job. A few people would get mad about it and talk shit. He would not reply, just make another one. lol.

WWE were the ones at fault here.

They live in an imaginary world and sometimes just decide to go real and assume everything still  works like imaginary land.

They did the same thing with their Brawl-For-All which was setup to highlight how tough Dr Death Steve Williams was ... except he got KO’d and they had no back up plan.

With this wrestling match they just assumed Angle would destroy everyone because of his gold medal level Olympic ability. Submissions (and Angle’s lack of experience with them) never occurred to them despite them being a big part of the imaginary wrestling they specialise in.

Wasn't Puder and even Angle rumored to be part of the TUF 10 cast (with Kimbo)? That would've been awesome. I met Puder at a Strikeforce after party and got to talk with him a bit. Really nice guy and even carried the conversation.

This was all about 15/16 years ago wasn’t it? I was just starting to get into MMA and UFC and I recall getting Tito Ortiz confused as the same guy especially as Puder has the I HURT KURT t shirt the same time Ortiz was wearing his DANA IS MY BITCH t shirt.

plus the look, the tan, the short blonde hair.

Angle would’ve been a beast in MMA with his wrestling base, and solid overall MMA training when he was in his prime. Obviously juiced to the gills, but back then.....you know. Would’ve been big in Pride.

The guy who reffed it:

Isn’t Hardcore Holly infamous for taking it out on newbies/trainees beyond the point of simply hazing? Puder should have kimura-ed him instead.

Yes. He wasn't a well liked guy by many in the locker rooms.

Maybe. Some wrestlers really thought wrestling was enough. Kurt seems like one of those guys. But his wrestling was unreal.

Puder used to spam this forum with whatever he was selling at the moment, the last thing I remember is tried to make money off anti bullying stuff.

I think the spamming was just for youtube hits so he could make some extra money. He’s still doing the anti-bullying thing, though it’s evolved beyond just that and is now an all out curriculum that can be implemented at schools. It’s called My Life My Power and I think it’s based in Florida now.

Holly is known for sandbagging Brock.   Brock dropped him on his head and broke his neck.
