David Avellan on BODOG this Tues

"needs to work on some better MMA guard passing in my opinion"

Damn you are a tough critic! I thought he looked great all around. A big
league performance, imo.

"Dave Avellan versus Charles McCarthy would be great."

Top for that fight. Interesting matchup.

Glad I saw this thread or else I would have missed this throwdown.

Tremendous heart by Avellan to fight back after getting rocked early on and his nose shattered.

Avellan was doing some truly Fedor-like thunderous GnP. Slinging devastating windmill shoulder-torquing punches from inside the guard and then while mounted.

But it was also an example of a fight where knees/kicks on the ground would have been a fight-changer/ender. Nothing punishes a stuffed takedown more and imo, if Rea could have kneed/soccer-kicked a rocked Avellan after the first few stuffed takedowns that Avellan went for after he was dazed, the fight would have been over.

Instead Avellan was able to recovere and came back to dominate with some brutal sledgehammers on the ground. A lot of guys would have packed it in.

And Avellan also really got screwed with the standup to check on his broken nose and the subsequent restart ON THE FEET when Avellan had been on top in Rea's guard, just starting to administer some solid punishing GnP.

Incredible heart by Avellan and just explosive GnP. The smearing of blood on the ring floor was telltale.

TTT for David Avellan!

I was thinking the same thing when I watched it. I won't say it would have
been over because we never know, but knees do change things.

That was a war.

Even more so impressive than Davids fight in Bodog (which was a great fight), was his performance at this years Abu Dhabi Worlds. Absolutely unbelievable!

Had it not been for the lame rule of being able to save yourself from a take down by going to your knees I think he would have done even better than he did.
