It was announced this week that Phil Davis had opted to sign a contract with Bellator MMA rather than resign with the UFC. For him, it was a simple decision:

Offers came from “all the (organizations) you would expect” according to Davis, but Bellator’s was most tempting. With an offer in hand, he went to UFC officials to allow them the opportunity to match the terms of the deal.
“I had to offer the chance to go back to the UFC and have them match the offer, and they declined,” Davis said. “There was another offer on the table, and they declined to match.”
While Davis is excited about the opportunities that come with entering a new promotion, he isn’t shy about the motivations behind signing with Bellator. In a sport with such a small window of opportunity to fight at a high level and so few chances to negotiate on the open market, Davis was looking to get paid.
“It’s simple,” Davis said. “We, as fighters, fight people for money. There’s no real secret there, guys. We fight people for money.”

I respect his choice.
Good for him.
I believe the bald father orchestrated this to let Davis grow in belator until the ufc buys them out, setting up the Jones/Davis unifying match!
WWF shit on a new level
It was a great move for Phil and Bellator.
DoomFarmer - More "fighting" please.
This.
I really like Davis as a person but in all respect his fights are boring.
It's just another Fitch, okami, shields situation but this time the ufc didn't have to cut him. He's an elite fighter but I don't think the ufc feels guys like this help their brand.
hendofanforlife -

UFC isn't buying out any active promotion anytime soon. They won't until after the lawsuit they are in is over. If anything, they let him go to Bellator to prove the point that top athletes have a choice between more then one promotion.
Davis is going to validate the Bellator 205 division when he gets beat by Mo.
this move will be an advantage in the lawsuit.
Shy Guy - It was a great move for Phil and Bellator.
I never cared to watch Davis fights in the UFC but for some reason I want to watch him fight in Bellator, Needle moved
PrettyBoy - Davis is going to validate the Bellator 205 division when he gets beat by Mo.

The UFC didn't cut him, his contract expired after his last fight.

I didn't think so at first.
But I could see mo cracking him.
I think Davis is the better fighter, but styles make fights.
His contract with the UFC expired in January. Then the UFC declined to match two offers. It would be cool to know what those offers were. I also think it's funny how you guys blast Phil for being boring in the UFC but think it's gonna be fun to watch him in Bellator.
