DC area Jiu jItsu

Dc area is exploding with Jiu jitsu. We have seen seminars In past month from Relson Gracie, Rickson Gracie, Royce Gracie, Felipe costa, Romula Reis, Michelle Nicolini just to name a few . Pedro Sauer lives here. Mario Yamasaki lives here. Lloyd Irving lives here.
( Leo Dalla, Dave jacobs, Ryan hall, Toney waldecker,etc....) It a great time to be training in the DC area. Take advantage.

LOL at Lloyd Irvin being mentioned in the same sentence as the Gracie's and Pedro Sauer.

Just to clarify we've got 14 blackbelts (+/- I lose count sometimes..) in the DC area including Mario and Fernando Yamasaki, 4th degree BJJ Blackbelts.

There is a Relson Academy in Calvert county in Maryland. Anyone have any experience with them? I was thinking of trying them out, or Yamasaki's gym.

I just enjoy the amount of Jiujitsu offered in the area.

I would try out Calvertmma a Relson gracie academy. Great group of guys. I go over there every now and than. Just stop by.

Ryan Hall got his black belt tonight. just saying.

I think I may try out the Relson Academy. More options in the DC/Baltimore area, but who wants to hit the beltway or go through Baltimore?

Another thing, I hate that the gyms do not list prices. I don't have a lot of spending money and training would be considered a luxery and not a necessity for me.

Geographically those two gyms are very far apart!  if you live in southern Maryland you should go to Calvert. They are very nice guys. I talk to them at almost every local tournament.  however if you are closer to Montgomery county etc.. you should definately check out Yamasaki in Rockville location.

Nothing but great things to say about the Yamasaki guys. Amazing coaches and great training atmosphere.

I'm right in the middle, about 30 miles either way. Relson Academy is about 5 min closer according to mapquest and may be an easier drive traffic wise.

There's about 25 BJJ black belts in NJ, just sayin!

something to think about: while the mileage is the same the actual drive time will be much different. - driving out in the country will be pretty straight forward. driving 30mi into the suburban sprawl that is beltway and north is a whole 'nother animal..   lol and I'm a Yamasaki guy myself but I want you to train at the place that gives you good training but also is drivable on a regular basis without making you mental.

ok so that's 16 that I can think of and that doesn't even scratch the dozens of brown belts we've got. or count our international bb's.  Those are just the ones in the MD/DC/VA area.

BIC, you left out Tony Waldecker from "Relson Gracie VA Academy" in your black belt list.

Leo Dalla as well. I think his school is in Woodbridge. I saw this dude train and he's really really good at MMA, not just BJJ.

I'm sure were leaving out a few others as well.

Salvatorre Santollaya is a black belt now? God for him.

Hope you've been doing well BIC.

PS. Relson Gracie Academy on Picket Road right by Fair City Mall in Fairfax going towards Annandale is picking up a lot of steam. Tony Waldecker and James Hannan(Brown Belt, Relson Gracie) are the instructors there. Very professional, tough jiu jitsu dudes..
