Re: Eddie's interview. He said he looks forward to the day when gi is taught alongside 10th Planet JJ in the same academy.
At my academy we train no gi 2x/week. It's just BJJ without the gi but isn't this the norm at most places? Are there a lot of schools that only train with the gi and never take it off?
I was talking about the part where he was willing to let by gones be by gones. I felt that was pretty big of him in spite of the tremendous amount of flack he's been catching lately. I feel thats good regardless of how I feel about the Rubber Guard, or the Gi - NoGi debate.
Again, big congrats on being the first blackbelt Denny, I told you you would be the first!

Before I went into a Gracie Barra school and went strictly gi to progress in belts, I did nothing but study 10th planet stuff, got the dvds...all 3 books. And like the system or not...Eddie is easily one of...if not the most open-minded blackbelts there are..
How many blackbelts do you know that open the mat up at the end of a training and say, ok someone show me something you came up with..show me what you got? And then take that move..which could be from a whitebelt or blue..or whatever and then expound on it, examine it and if it works incorporate it into his jiu jitsu system... Yes, take some whitebelts fave move and if it works..incorporate it into the 10th planet system...
That is insaneeeeee. Who does that? I doubt many of us could name even name one other blackbelt who does this...
And that alone is why I have massive amounts of respect for Eddie.

However he needs to get of his high horse that he is the only one contributing to the evolution of the art.
I think all the big schools are ahead of him when it comes to advancing technique... as seen at ADCC.
Also, name one of the top schools in the Gi that never trains No Gi.
About learning from a white belt, I think it was JJM in one of his books that said he learned one his favourite moves from a white belt.... so Eddie isn't the only onw learning from his students, everyone is.

Exactly. And I haven't seen any evidence of gi training slowing down someone's progress of learning no gi.

what i don't understand is why would A team like alliance need to teach 10 planet along in thier gyms when the products of their schools are more accomplished than eddies students...? wait they are more accomplished than eddie himself. Maybe eddie should have Alliance/barra/humaita/check mat/brassa teach in his school in both gi and no gi.
