Hey peeps, I like to change things up constantly in my kids class...
But Im running out of new unique ideas..
So, you design the class for today..
Starts at 5:00 so hurry up..
(p.s. its an hour long)
Sorry, Q...no good ideas from me today. Just the thought of you having to spend an hour with a small army of kids has me brainlocked. I don't know who to fear for: you or the kids.
What is the Judo equivalent to Red Line / Blue Line?
End the class with team Dodgeball. Any kid that get's hit has to do technique reps of your choosing (ie: 5 breakfalls each side, 10 thai kicks on the bag, etc.). Then they can come back into the game.
"Head Stomp Day." Get those little tykes ready for the mean streets.
how old are the kids 5 to 9 ,10 to 13 ?
keep em comin...
already played every form of dodgeball known to man..
we even play with an mma glove sometimes..
If you can dodge a glove, you can dodge a punch!:)

lol! That's great.
bismanfightclub - Cream the carrier IMO.
Is that the PC name for something?
- Traditional warm up, including break falls and rolls.
2. Nega waza. Start with Uchi Mata, then progress to Uchi mata makikomi (check spelling) we used to call it big uchi mata. This way the kids can properly land, completing the throw, in kase gatami.
3. For your ground work, work kesa gatami variations and proper techniques.
For kids it is good self defence to learn to throw and pin. If you have time you can work in a submission as a bonus.
^Not to be rude okie, but that sounds really really boring..
Heck that would bore me, let alone a 9yr old..
The kids in my class love to play medicine ball basketball. I take one of the tires we use for plyos and put it on the floor. I then tak the inflatable 12 lb medicine ball that can bounce. The distance line is about a foul line distance away. They are allowed to bounce it in(for the little guys and gals)but it is sort of a rite of passage for them to be able to "swish" it. If they make it then they get to go to the back of the line for another shot. If they miss, they owe me 10(push ups, sit ups, or free squats~their choice)before they can get back in line. They love it and it is a great plyo workout(throwing the 12lb ball)and a good way to get them to do cals. We also do three part sprints. 40 yard dashes. Form a line. First time through without anything, second time through carrying the medicine ball up by their neck, third time through carrying the medicine ball over their head. Great at developing cardio and the overhead ball sprints actually help their balance as well. I stand at the line and yell encouraging things to them as they run. They love it. Hope this helps Quincy.
bisman, awesome!
Matt, I got both the medicine mballs and the tire...Tire is huge though, have to put my line waaaaay back..Like these ideas, can tell you actually do this:) add more when you can..Ill throw some of my stuff down later as well..
ohferfuxsakes - You're on Zyban again aren't you Quincy?
Chantix!!
sit around in a circle drinking tea and eating scones, and discuss your feelings.
One legged Sumo. Reach behind grab your own foot on opposite side. Bounce around and one foot and try to shove the other kid over a line or make em let go.
teep kick a physio ball back at you that you bounce at them.

None taken, I had a Japanese instructor, it was no nonsense. I don't mind if your kids play dodge ball, but I pay to have my kids learn Judo, they can play dodgeball at school.
My sons have played about every sport. No parents would put up with kids playing dodge ball or duck duck goose in a football or baseball practice. I'm older and want my kids to learn what I am paying to have them taught. I want Judo to be taken as seriously as baseball and football. The fact that we don't is why we are an absolute embarrassment in olympic judo as a country.
You can have relay races and things like that for warm ups. Races that include rolls, shrimping, jumping and running. I'm not saying make it as hardcore as I was trained, but spend 80-90% of the time giving the kids what their parents paid for.
Just my krusty old opinion.
