DFW aims to give Chimaev record setting 2nd fight

BRAVE Combat Federation vet Khamzat Chimaev finally caught the eye of the hardcore MMA fanbase in his league debut at UFC on ESPN 13. Chimaev was so dominant he earned a 10-7 score from one judge; that's rarer that intelligent discussion on the social network. Nearly untouched, "Borz" was given just the minimum suspension of seven days, and wants to fight again ASAP on Fight Island. The sole event available is UFC on ESPN 14 on July 25. Thereafter, at least as of today, the UFC returns to Vegas.

UFC president Dana White spoke to reporters after the UFC on ESPN+ 30 weigh-ins on Friday, and he is open to the idea.

“He asked me {for another bout on Fight Island] that night," said White. "I said why not? Yeah. All right. Let’s do it.”

“We are [trying t[ find someone for him]. As far as I know, we’re still looking. [Matchmaker Mick Maynard] is working on something for him right now. We’ll see what we can figure out.”

If it happens it would break the (post-tournament) UFC record for shortest time between fights. It's currently held by Chas Skelly holds the record in the post-tournament era at 13, with a tap of Tom Niinimaki on August 23, 2014 and a decision over Sean Soriano on September 5. If Chimaev get the fight, the new record would be just ten days.

If I recall they used to fight 3x in one single night

Hence the “post-tournament” part.

I guess I overlooked that when I read “record setting”. You can almost invent a new record for anything these days.

Who’s gonna have the balls to take him on short notice…? Feels like an incredibly risky move lol

Dude congrats! You just broke the record for posting 3 times in a Chimaev thread started by Kirik in July!

There’s a pretty clear division between eras here. This isn’t some out-there reach.

Stop being so obtuse on purpose.

Are you really that bored?

Glad Dana can see guy is an absolute killer. I truly think he could dominate at WW and be world champ and do the same at MW

There was a time when Donald Cerrone would have been the perfect opponent to gauge the skills of a hotshot newcomer. Today Cerrone would be tapped out by this dude within 30 seconds and nothing would be learned. I know a bunch of guys here are super high on Chimaez including head booster Kirik. All I'm saying is let the dude fight someone with a freaking pulse, someone that will fight back, someone to wipe that smug grin off his face, AND THEN we can crown him greatest of all time.

One win over a certified 22-9 tomato can, no matter how vicious and impressive, DOES NOT PUT YOU ON THE LEVEL OF KAMARA USMAN!

Thank you.

It’s exciting when a guy comes in and establishes himself in his first fight. Plus the way he did it, it will be awesome to see him work his way and the match-ups it creates. Now if someone in the heavyweight division could do the same the world would be a better place.

I love the throwback to the quick turnaround. Even after tournaments I’m sure more than just me has seen Jeremy Horn and Travis Fulton fight the toughest local or regional dude on a Friday and hit the next state on Saturday and do the same thing. You steamroll someone and come out clean, you’re in shape, hit the next one. I won’t jinx the dude but I hope he continues to put on performances like that and gets to those big fights.

Can't you tell?? It's utter absolute DISRESPECT to say you're on the same level as the champion, when YOU HAVE NEVER EVEN HAD A FIVE ROUND FIGHT IN THE UFC!!!

Gonna be a delight to see him introduced again to reality.

Voicing your opinion doesn’t give you immunity from assholes like me calling you a cunt for stupidity.

We get it....the Boss of the UG is hyping somebody and you’re the rebel.  Very original...
