Fight Island Prime Minister Dana White spoke recently with ESPN MMA’s Phil Murphy about who is next for welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. Usman's manager Ali Abdelaziz recently called out McGregor, who accepted, but that's apparently not happening.
“Listen, the next title fight for Usman is gonna be one of these guys," said White, as transcribed by Farah Hannoun for MMA Junkie. "It’s gonna be Colby [Covington], [Jorge] Masvidal, [Leon] Edwards. It’s gonna be one of those guys,” White said. “It’s not gonna be Conor McGregor.”
BMF belt holder Masvidal says negotiations are at an impasse over Usman's compensation, and appears more interested in a rematch vs. Nate Diaz, but White plans to focus on the real title.
“I would rather see the UFC title be defended than the ‘BMF’ title,” said White. “Anything’s possible, but those are the fights that make sense right now.”
