UFC president Dana White took part in a fundraiser in Boston today for the Shawn Thornton Foundation, which raises awareness, funds innovative research, and helps to relieve the burden and improve the quality of life for patients striken with Parkinsons and cancer. During a special Q&A, White revealed that if Nick Diaz wants to unretire, he can fight Lyoto Machida, in an intriguing boxing vs. karate match up.

Machida is game to drop to 185, now that teammate Anderson Silva is no longer the middleweight title holder. White previously indicated a desire to match Machida with VItor Belfort, also at 185, but Belfort has said repeatedly he only wants to fight at 185 if the title is on the line.

"I talked to Diaz today, and I made him an offer, so we'll see what happens," White said. "He had been talking about going to 185 pounds. Machida has been talking about going to 185 pounds. So we wanted to see if he wanted to fight Machida at 185."

"I wanted Machida to fight Vitor Belfort, but Vitor Belfort is his own matchmaker, apparently. He wants to make his own fights."

And what does the notoriously mercurial Diaz camp have to say?

"They said they'd get back to me," said White.

Why does the base ofmy dick burn? Phone Post 3.0

This fight would be like diaz vs condit but way more boring Phone Post 3.0

Machida by super boring UD.

Nicks style is tailor made for machida kick, circle, circle, wait then repeat. Phone Post 3.0

Machida by highlight real ko. Machida will be so much stronger and explosive. Machida also won't just gas. Phone Post

Sounds cool but...

Machida has never fought at MW.

Diaz hasn't fought at MW in years.

Diaz is supposedly retired.

And Diaz isn't down with the whole point-fighting game that Machida can bring if he chooses.

So I doubt this fight ever happens. Phone Post 3.0

I was coming to say it would probably be a bit of a snoozer. Phone Post 3.0

I don't like this. Normally I'm all in to see both men fight, and I will watch it if this does in fact happen, but this is a reallyyyyy bad style matchup for Nick. After he loses a decision he'll bitch about scoring then retire again. This would be like the Condit fight but much worse.

I would WAYYYYYY rather see Machida fight Vitor.

As much as I want fireworks in this match, there will be an UD by Machida after slow, plodding 3 rounds Phone Post

Please make this fight happen Phone Post 3.0

Machida really doesn't have to dear the ko I think he'd pressure Diaz. That's how you beat Diaz you counter his oressure with pressure. Take downs help too which Machida has. Phone Post

wut?

Lol what? Vitor vs Machida could've actually been competitive. Machida would MAUL Diaz. Diaz has fucking nothing for Machida.

If they really wanted Nick to fight at 185 why Machida? There are so many other great fights that could be made! Bisping vs Diaz would be crazy trash talk or Diaz vs Phillipou would also be great. Machida vs Nick? Unless its a 5 rounder I don't see why Dana would want this. Gotta root for Diaz but its a bad matchup IMO, but I'd still like to see if he could draw Machida into a firefight Phone Post
