Featherweight GOAT Max Holloway lost his title to Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 245 in December, and lost a controversial Split Decision in the rematch at UFC 251. UFC president Dana White recently did a live chat with Kevin Iole and was asked whether a third fight between featherweight champion and division GOAT Max Holloway was a possibility.
“It’s probably not tough to give him the third fight considering how that thing went down,” said White, as transcribed by Dan Hiergesell for MMA Mania. “But I don’t know, again let both these guys go home, spend some time. It sucks for Volkanovski to have the title, go home with everybody saying, ‘ah you didn’t win the fight, you didn’t win the fight.’ He won the fight, he won the fight. He got the decision. You can agree with it, disagree with it whatever you want to. The judges that night gave him the fight and I gotta get back to the drawing board and figure out what’s next for these two.”
Potential next contenders include Brian Ortega, Chan Sung Jung, Yair Rodriguez, Zabit Magomedsharipov, and Calvin Kattar. And Holloway has repeatedly discussed potentially moving up to lightweight, and challenged for the interim belt vs. Dustin Poirier at UFC 236 in April of 2019, but lost a decision.
I wouldn’t watch. Neither of their fights were very good. Volkanovski has had some good fights, but he’s been super boring in both fights against Max. Just a weird matchup that doesn’t produce good results. Definitely have them fight other people.
This is also precisely why it was stupid to have them immediately rematch.
Volkanovski clearly won the first fight and didn't need to give hollaway a rematch. He did, won it. And I think some people need to go rewatch the fight. It's fairly obvious some people got way to caught up in bispings commentary or how good Max looked in the first two rounds. He took his foot off the gas the next three rounds. In my opinion round 3 is the only round up for debate. It was a close fight, not a robbery , Max wasn't hard done by , volkanovski could have lost too but I doubt he would be receiving so much support as he's not the golden boy. As I've said before , it's fairly obvious about the bias towards Max when Volkanovski clearly won the the first fight 4-1 ( maybe 3-2 but I struggled to find more than one round for Holloway that fight ) and it was called a close fight , this fight was 3-2 either way but it's called a robbery because Max didn't win lol
No. Give Alex another opponent ffs! Give Max another opponent too. Let's judge them then. Both guys are tough af. If Alex & Max destroy their opponents, then we can have the discussion. Already been 10 rounds, can't we move on....
It sucks when shitty judges that dont kno anythin about fights randomly give the win to the wrong guy, Max won that fight, volkanovski didnt look as focused as the first fight Max took it to him
