<p>Each week UFC president Dana White speaks exclusively with UFC.com&#39;s <a href="https://twitter.com/MattParrinoUFC" target="_blank">Matt Parrino</a>, to go over the biggest stories of the week for <a href="http://www.ufc.com/news/dana-download-dec-4?utm_campaign=UFC&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=multiple&amp;utm_content=1417803867" target="_blank">The Download</a>. This week White naturally discussed the Reebok-UFC partnership.</p>

The Reebok revenue will not be apportioned based on purse, but will follow a tiered schedule:
Tier 1: Champion
Tier 2: Fighters ranked #1-5
Tier 3: Fighters ranked #6-10
Tier 4: Fighters ranked #11-15
Tier 5: Fighters not ranked in the top 15

The UFC fighter rankings are generated by a media panel, but White indicated the league would be tightening that up.

“If you’re the champion, you get paid the most,” explained White. “If you’re ranked one through five; and next tier, six through 10, it makes all the sense in the world.”

“I want to cut it down to a few really educated guys who vote on the rankings. Guys who know a lot about the sport, and who I think wouldn’t have any bias toward a fighter one way or another. At the end of the day, we’re human beings and you’re going to have those kinds of feelings, but I want guys that have a lot of integrity.”

White is also looking to increase the quality of the voting panel. A number of the top journalists in the MMA space are not members of the media panel, but White hopes to change that.

“I think they’re looking at it the wrong way,” said White. “I want to have conversations with those guys and tell them our perspective on it, and why they should be involved. t’s not unethical for journalists to vote on it at all if you get guys that are really good, educated about the sport, and have a lot of integrity. That’s what we’re looking for in these guys that are going to vote. And we’re definitely going to fix it.”

And lastly, White also intends to slim the number of eligible fighters.

“The best example right now is a guy like Rashad Evans,” said White. “He is ranked number four, but he doesn’t get paid unless he fights - but he’s taking up a spot. So what we need to do is, when somebody is inactive you pull them down. Then they can enter the rankings again when they fight.”

So what do you think UG? What is the best way to rank the top 15 fighters in the sport.

I'll take a stab.... by record??

Does integrity and the UFC really go together?

Not sure how you can drop a guy down for being inactive. That is, I understand the logic but how do you determine his new ranking? Rashad maybe doesn't deserve #4 because he's not fighting, but where do you put him then?

Perhaps removing inactive fighters entirely from the rankings makes the most sense. When he comes back his first fight (and opponente obviously) along with his previous history will determine where he gets placed

Flyweights, women's straw weight and BW have it made. Pretty much all of them will fall in the 1-4 category. Phone Post 3.0

It's going to need a major overhaul. Cage Potato put out an article today about the ten worst panelists on the UFC rankings, one of which is from the UG. But this whole thing needs some work and there is no right answer that will please everyone. http://www.cagepotato.com/the-top-ten-worst-ufc-rankings-panelists/

On that note, I wonder if the pay differs with weight class. Will the woman 115 lb champ get paid the same as Jones? Phone Post 3.0

Why wouldn't you do it by tenure? Have a tiered system based on the number of fights in the UFC. Not everyone will crack the top five but a fighter can still build a solid fanbase and should be rewarded for remaining in the UFC for several years. Phone Post 3.0

what about a fighter that isnt neccessarily ranked high but still put ass's in seats...like diego or nick diaz or whatever? They still bring in significant revenue but wont earn the piece they deserve from the reebok deal...

Fucking christ... This dude throwing around that P4P saying again... Like we haven't fucking heard it before. I'm tired of this shit. I'm glad he has talked with the media less... I used to hang onto every word and now there is just something different going on. Phone Post 3.0

This article is compelling as hell. The UG's own Chris Palmquist had some bizarre rankings lolz. Either Chris doesn't watch MMA or he has the fight IQ of a grilled cheese sandwich.

wow....

5. Chris Palmquist (MixedMartialArts.com) – When I first read Palmquist’s rankings I expected no problems from one of the guys who runs the UG. However, I am fully prepared for the hate mail I’m going to receive when I say that Chris Palmquist either jobbed his rankings or he hasn’t actually watched MMA. His rankings as seen here are downright astonishing for someone who is a partner in one of the largest worldwide MMA forums.

Palmquist has pretty much ranked the loser of every fight outcome higher than the winner for practically all major top 10 fighters this year.

Mark Hunt is ranked higher than Junior Dos Santos, Big Nog higher than Roy Nelson, Mauricio Rua over Dan Henderson, Michael Bisping over Tim Kennedy, Erick Silva over Dong Hyun Kim, Cub Swanson over Ricardo Lamas, Renan Barao below Raphael Assuncao and Dominick Cruz, Eddie Wineland the #6 bantamweight but Johnny Eduardo unranked.

Honestly, I have to believe Palmquist just phoned it in and picked his favorites, or copy and pasted old rankings. I was tempted to rank Palmquist the #1 worst offender on the list simply because he ranked Erick Silva (4 wins against cut fighters, 4 losses to top 10 fighters) as the #9 welterweight in the UFC…ABOVE THE GUY WHO KNOCKED HIM OUT. Shame!

(From the Cage Potato article that MMASucka posted)

This is also concerning:

8. Jorge Correa (UOL Brazil) – Besides ranking Brad Pickett and Scott Jorgensen in the wrong division — eight other panelists ranked these two in the wrong weight class as well — Correa had Eddie Wineland ranked as the #7 bantamweight in the world, which at first doesn’t seem like a big deal, however the guy that recently knocked him out wasn’t even ranked. The shocking part is Correa wasn’t the only panelist to do this. Of the 21 panelists that did rank Eddie Wineland, 11 ranked him higher than Johnny Eduardo, while the remaining 10 didn’t have Eduardo ranked AT ALL.

Doe Tier 5 fighters get paid in reebok pumps and windbreakers?

Sounds like the current panel system has to go and they are addressing it which is good.
Saying there is an easy way to rank mma fighters though is a ridiculous statement. Phone Post 3.0
