Cant do tenure or record. Gives fighters too much incentive to avoid tough fights. Cub could fight Edgar for a shot at Aldo, two murderes. Or he could execute 3-4 bums a year and probably be paid just as much. At the very least he'd of never agreed to fight a wrestler.
You're assumption would only be true if the sponsorship money is so lucrative it exceeds the contract pay of the top guys, which is highly unlikely. The top guys are still going to be paid the most, with or without the sponsorship money.
I would be shocked if anyone suddenly went from 'I want to fight the best and get that belt' to 'forget about the title, I want that Reebok money!'
And besides, if Cub only fought bums he would start dropping in the rankings anyways, which kills your whole argument.
Madrugadao - I have a problem with that Cage Potato article.
The people that had fighters in the wrong weight class are certainly a problem. However, outside of that, it seems a lot of the writers arguments are based around the belief that any fighter with a win over another, should automatically be ranked above them. This is silly, the rankings relate to where you fit in the division, not how you compare to one other fighter.
He may still have had valid points but he didn't do a very good job of getting them across.
Multiple people had Eddie Wineland in the top 10 and Johnny Eduardo not even ranked. Not sure what else to say....
From the article:
"Of the 21 panelists that did rank Eddie Wineland, 11 ranked him higher than Johnny Eduardo, while the remaining 10 didn’t have Eduardo ranked AT ALL."
