this fight doesn't need to happen, but sure, why not. one more fight before St Pierre takes the title could be fine. the longer the wait for St Pierres title shot, the better St Pierre gets, and the more Hughes chances decrease.
a fight with Diaz will be nothing more then a tune up fight for St Pierre. St Pierre is on another level, he beats Diaz 9 times out of 10. he stands the best chance at beating Hughes in the division and is really the number 1 contender even if Karo is getting Hughes next. All a St Pierre win does is tell the mma world what they already knew before, if they weren't in denial that is. This fight doesn't need to happen to know who the number 2 ww in the UFC is, you want to throw Diaz in there to reward him, fine go ahead, but it's not necessary.
Diaz hasn't beaten anyone on the level of Frank Trigg.
He had a competive fight with Karo, who St Pierre dominated.
When Diaz beats a top 5 ww, (which he has yet to do) then he will be as deserving at a title shot as St Pierre is now, but who knows, by that time chances are it will St Pierre giving him the title shot as I'm sure St Pierre will be more then glad to do.
I'd like to see that fihgt, Diaz is very good. GSP has separated himself from the rest of the 170 pouunders with his victory last night but Diaz does present a challenge and if nothing more, it will give GSP a good tune up prior to his showdown with Hughes.
GSP is more then capable of hanging in there stand up wise with Diaz. I mean Karo hung in there standing with Diaz with some of the ugliest stand up technique going for fuck sakes. GSP isn't as wild as Lawler and less likely to leave himself open to counters that will leave him vulnerable to getting KOes. If GSP feels uncomfortable standing with Diaz, he will take Diaz down without a problem, just like he does against everyone else, and ground and pound Diaz until he either gets the TKO or gets the UD.
