                    <blockquote>

“I think the scoring should be like, say a guy gets a takedown, it should count for a takedown for sure. What is a takedown in wrestling, two points? In a grappling match it’s two points, so he gets a takedown,” said Diaz. “But if he takes you down and lands in your closed guard and gets punched in the head forty times, is he still ahead on points?”

“If you’re on top, you’re winning, and I think it’s ridiculous.”

Wrestlers have been able to take the younger of the Diaz brothers down in the past, but he points out that certain takedowns don’t hold the same weight with the judges as others.

“I’ve been training with Jake (Shields) and Gil (Melendez) and really good wrestlers for years. I think I could probably go into every fight and jump guard on guys and be just fine in the fight. It’s weird because if you jump guard wouldn’t you have the control because you went to the back where wanted to be and take him down,” questioned Diaz.

 and he's right

As the sport evolves and people become more educated about what is really going on in the cage, the current rules/scoring system will be scrutinized more. Change will come in time

Anderson is a smart man. I dont like Bisping, but a fight with a fighter that has pillow hands, and a average ground game is an easy fight for him, and If it was in England it would be a huge payday. I also think it would be a small step backwards, even if BIsping beat Rivera.

Nate Diaz maybe would have been undefeated in UFC under Pride Rules.

I think the judging needs to be addressed, this back and forth stuff is ruining the sport. MMA has gone so far to be held back by this stuff. Bothers me that they are not listening to the outcries for change and they spend all their time defending themselves and the judges, your not going to please everyone but education, clinics, and certified MMA judges are great places to start.

There are two debates at play here:

One is the competence of the judges
The other is the criteria

People often blur one into the other when complaining about judging.

I feel that if the criteria were more appropriate to MMA and as a consequence also easier to apply, we would have less complaining about competence.

We mock Cecil because, for example, leg kicks don't win fights, but that's disguising an underlying issue: The scoring criteria are extremely open to interpretation. And that's without opening the 10-point-must can of worms.

 He is spot on.

dear lord Nate Diaz dropping knowledge... I cant believe I even wrote that

LilBrockonmychest -  He's right but it's been this way for years.  If he doesn't like it, why doesn't he do something about it?

Like what? Keep getting robbed?

I honestly think he beat Kim.

No he didn't.

Every time Diaz brothers loose, there is an excuse.

He didn't really beat me, he just took me down.

He didn't really beat me, he just opened an old cut, etc.

Here is really nothing new here.

He's right. I honestly think a takedown should count as nothing, what you do with it is what should be getting scored. Phone Post

Maybe if nate could finish more people he wouldn't worry about judging.

He's right. I scored that fight 29-28 Diaz.

I honestly think a punch or kick should count as nothing, wether you get a KO with it is what should be getting scored. Phone Post

Sounds just as retarded as saying "Oh, all he did was execute a grappling maneuver that requires near complete control of his opponent, then he completely neutralized his opponents offense, while executing his own, while still maintaining control. That shouldn't count for anything! Lol at MMA scoring! The guy on his back CLEARLY wins! I mean he got taken down AND controlled!" Phone Post

Just cause the guy who's on bottom punches alot doesn't mean he inflicts any punishment.. When there's obvious proof the guy on bottom does more damage however...

Cap, only playing defense in every sport on earth never scores you offensive points. It's like the Jets expecting to win because they hold the Pats to zero points this weekend but don't score any themselves.

I think nate would like my scoring system:

The criteria is bunk, everyone knows this.
