Did Bas Rutten pay off UFC judges???

I've never seen a more clear cut robbery in my life. Who paid off these judges? Ruttens team?

Yes actively getting his face bashed in. I see the logic here

It's been ages since i saw that fight.

I gather you're talking about randalman

They both did fuck all.  Kevin had a cut on the head though.

I don't know how you could give it to bas.

He wasn't doing much. Weird decision

They had a great time at that fight.

I should know because I was there!!!

Bas is overrated. He's just as much myth/personality than anything else. He's this supposed guru yet hasn't trained anyone. Dominated and submitted by the legendary Kenneth Wayne Shamrock 2x.

Before Frank Shamrock returned his only two losses were to Bas.

Those were fixed fights in Japan. Bas knew the fix was in vs Randleman as well.

Incredible how well his PR has held up over the years compared to Shamrock

According to this article

“Judge Tim Catalfo scores the fight for Kevin Randleman, judge Skip Hall scores it for Bas Rutten, and judge Dan Miragliotta scores it for your winner by split decision, Bas Rutten. In all, Bas spent 18:25 of the 21:00 fight on his back, although he was able to greatly outland Randleman and had three submission attempts.”

Rutten vs. Randleman Wiki Update Wiki

15 minute regulation period: Bas throws a front kick that Randleman easily evades. Bas pulls a leg kick and Randleman drives in for an easy takedown, ending up in Bas’ guard 30 seconds into the fight. Randleman begins throwing heavy ground ‘n pound while Bas pulls down on his head and maneuvers for the half butterfly guard. Bas pushes him off and Randleman springs to side control, where he lands mostly glancing blows. Bas stays somewhat active on the bottom, throwing knees into Randlemans side. Bas, bleeding from a cut on the bridge of his nose, manages to regain guard, eating a few shots in the process. Bas throws his legs up looking for an arm bar, but Randleman manages to evade the attempt, although he does eat a few shots from Bas immediately after. Randleman responds with a big left. Bas makes a bit of a strange move, brining up a leg on the inside that Randleman easily slides across gaining side control. Bas eats a couple, regains half guard and eats a few more before managing to regain full guard. At this point, Big John steps in to have the doc look at the cut on Bas’ nose, which also turns out to be broken. Bas, of course, elects to continue and the fight resumes on the feet (5 minute mark). Bas lands a hard kick to the body that Randleman catches and uses for a takedown at the 5:30 mark. Randlemans attack seems to be slowing while Bas lands shots from the bottom. The action slows with Randleman throwing the occasional flailing bomb that mostly misses while Bas continues to land pitter patter shots from the bottom. Bas throws his legs up for another arm bar attempt but loses his grip on the wrist and Randleman moves to side control again. Bas is able to regain half guard when Randleman attempts what appears to be a reverse head and arm choke. Both men land shots with Bas being the more active man. Bas regains full guard and things remain a bit slow. Big John stops the action to once again clean Bas off. Bas’ face is a mess and again they restart on the feet at the 10:30 mark. Bas attempts, and misses, a front kick and Randleman rushes in, pushing him against the cage. After a brief stalemate, Randleman gets the takedown at the 11:30 mark. Things move slowly for a bit until Bas begins throwing elbows from the bottom, opening a couple cuts on Randlemans scalp. Bas continues to stay active while simultaneously nullifying Randlemans offense. Bas begins throwing palm strikes to the side of Randlemans head and stays very busy for the rest of the period. The period ends with Bas having spent approximately 13:30 of the 15:00 period on his back.

First 3 minute OT: Between periods Mark Coleman can be heard encouraging Randleman to throw elbows to bust up Bas more, going for the doctor stoppage. Bas opens with a high kick that misses. Bas throws a low kick and Randleman jumps inside and takes him down a the 0:25 second mark. Bas continues to pepper Randleman from the bottom. Bas throws his legs up for another arm bar attempt and nearly gets it, but Randleman is able to power out. Randleman stays mostly chest to chest, throwing the occasional hammer fist. Bas responds with multiple shots from the bottom that are not doing much damage, but are scoring points. At the end of the fist OT, Bas has spent an additional 2:35 on his back.

Second 3 minute OT: Between periods Coleman encourages Randleman to smear the blood into Bas’ eyes, looking for any advantage. At the start of the second OT Randleman begins by circling away and Bas lands a nice body kick and manages to stay on his feet. Bas misses with a Superman punch and Randleman is able to drive him inot the cage and get the takedown at the 0:40 mark. Randleman doesn’t do much and Bas continues to throw from his back until the expiration of the period. Bas has spent an additional 2:20 on his back.

Now that's a blast from the past. Tim Catalfo, not exactly an impartial judge for Randleman since they had trained together. Skip Hall is another name that I haven't thought of in years. I remember when he got exposed here. The ufc definitely wanted Bas to win though. They had even altered the guy in their logo to look more like Bas.

This fight definitely helped lead to our current round system to make things easier to score.

Fight was not scored under modern rounds and scoring system.

Judges had way more leeway to determine who they felt should be the winner and it was more like PRIDEs vague, who was probably winning at the end and who would have probably won if this thing went on forever.

Randleman was dead tired and admitted later that one Bas’s kicks to his body basically shut down that side and he couldn’t do much. He was still with it enough to hold Bas down for 89% of the fight though, even if he couldn’t do much from there.

One of the judges knew Randleman and gave it to him. Another was Skip Hall, the infamous fake war veteran that embarrassed mods and owner of this site who constantly defended him.

Was it ‘fixed’ as in payed off? Nah.

Were the 2 judges who gave it to Bas maybe influenced by him being the exciting new import that the UFC wanted to be the face of the company? …probably a little.

It all added up to a decision that everyone still talks about 20yrs later.

Same. Great event. I ended up sitting with George Allen and his team. Pretty much that whole section was pulling for Bas but most of us thought he lost. He's kinda lucky Kevin did so little. Even a tiny bit more and be would have taken it easily.

Bad won.kevin did fuck all with his top control and got outworked from the bottom. We witnessed the evolution of a sport.

And I always rooted for Kevin.

Dumb post.

80 percent of bas rutten's entire career was a work. Baroni even mentioned this a few weeks ago in a tweet. Most of his matches in japan were works. I;m sure the judges were paid off for this match. He's always been a shysty guy selling bs (the oxygen mask, weird contraptions)

never trusted him.
