ANT_P1989 - Floyd will never get his just due. People are more interested in his personal life than appreciating his dominance of the sport of Boxing. Fake ass fight fans if you ask me. <img src="/images/phone/droid.png" alt="Phone Post" border="0" style="vertical-align:middle;"/>
I only care about one thing outside of the ring, made plenty of mistakes myself so I cant judge, nor do I care what a fighter does outside of the ring....except laying hands on a woman. Call me a fake fight fan if youd
If this is a fan based award, no way MMA will compete with the popularity of boxing. Regardless of who deserves the award boxing is still far more popular, of course MMA fans will think a MMA fighter should get it, but in reality IMHO the award should go to a number of boxers I can think of before I would even consider a MMA fighter.

You mean compete with the popularity of 2 boxers, Manny/Floyd, not the sport of boxing.
and pleas list these other fighters you would give the award to before you even considered Jon Jones?
I'd love to hear it considering Jon Jones is the true FOTY in combat sports over anyone in mma and boxing this past ESPY cycle from July to June.
I agree, Jones was the FOTY no doubt about it, this isnt an mma vs boxing thing because Floyd/Manny deserved to win the award in years past over mma fighters but this year Jones should have won.
ITs fan voting though so casual fans who vote see Floyd who they know even if they dont follow boxing or mma they know who Floyd is and that he is unbeaten and see his highlights so they vote for him.
I dont think mma fighters can do anything that would get them a win over Floyd/manny. Silva could go 5-0 from now till the next ESPY's and if Manny or Floyd win a fight or two in that same time they would win again.
King777 - Floyd deserves it, haters can keep crying.<br><br>Cry me a river so I can piss in it. <img src="/images/phone/apple.png" alt="Phone Post" border="0" style="vertical-align:middle;"/>

Thats just your opinion, if you don't follow boxing theres no point in me saying who I think the award should go to as I'm not looking to argue the award. First, Jon Jones is not even on the same planet when it comes to accomplishment in combat sports as Mayweather or Pac, for that matter he's not even a distant third. MMA and Boxing are two very different monsters, it's pointless to pit the two against each other, but when someone makes the statement that the "only two names" in Boxing are Pacman and Mayweather then I know I'm dealing with someone who doesn't follow boxing.
I guess I should have finished with this thought, what I'm trying to say is that if the fighter of the year award is indeed a popularity contest, I don't know who does the voting, then it will be hard for anyone in boxing or MMA to compete with the most well known accomplished fighters. There are many very hard working and successful up and coming boxers who have had a very good year, just because they don't have a household name or a top 5 ranking doesn't mean they can't be fighter of the year, if you're not a hard core boxing fan then most names I would consider would just pass by with a simple response of who ??
