                    <p>In his latest article, Kevin Iole takes a look at the situation surronding Georges St-Pierre, a title fight against Nick Diaz in March:</p>

St-Pierre had three options: Move up to fight middleweight champion Anderson Silva in a catch-weight bout, defend the title against obvious No. 1 contender Johny Hendricks, or defend it against bitter rival and top draw Nick Diaz.

A fight against Silva would have made the most money, but after having been sidelined for 19 months by injury, St-Pierre understandably wants to remain active. He said that after his successful title defense against Carlos Condit on Nov. 17 in Montreal, he was back working out three days later.

In order to fight Silva, who walks around at more than 220 pounds, St-Pierre would have had to bulk himself up considerably. He walks around between fights in the high 180s and said that if he chose to go up, it would not only take months to put on the needed muscle, but he likely wouldn't be able to drop back down to welterweight.

The fact that a portion of the fan base is outraged that St-Pierre opted for Diaz and the big money speaks to the fact that most of the time, UFC champions face the logical No. 1 contender.

In a sport like fighting, however, where a career can end in a split-second, one shouldn't fault an athlete for accepting the fight that will pay him the most. It's a business and none of his fans will pay his bills if St-Pierre is injured and can't fight again.

When you find yourself at St-Pierre's level, you take the money to secure yourself for the future. He did that.

I think GSP believes that after watching the Ben Henderson fight with Nate, that he can beat Nick the same way. I think Nate was rocked by Henderson in that fight early. I think Diaz is a much more well rounded fighter than GSP and I do not think GSP has the power in his punches to hurt Diaz. I honestly see Nick winning by submission. I also think GSP would have lost no matter what matchup he chose between the three.

GSP wins this fight 10 out of 10 times, and he truly doesn't like Diaz. No wonder he wants it.

He would be criticized regardless of who he chose to fight so he was wise to choose the smaller threat with the bigger payday. Phone Post

He picked the easiest fight that will generate the most cash. 

He would be foolish to move up to MW and I doubt Anderson would agree on a catchweight any less than 180lbs. Hendricks is an up-and-comer that doesn't have a big draw and is somewhat unpredictable and untested, its a risky fight.

He has the blueprint to beat Diaz. Along with the Diaz name and his personality, this will probably be the biggest fight of 2013. It is a win-win fight for GSP.

GSP will leg kick, leg kick, leg kick, take him down, use elbows, cut diaz up, as diaz has a lot of tissue damage from previous fights. Thats what GSP will do, he will not come to fight, he will come to win. Diaz on the other hand will come to fight. GSP's hand will be raised

Nick Diaz has the big rewards with least risk...  Anderson is second best option and Hendricks is third best option for GSP.  SO yes, he made the best choice for himself.

As for Zuffa... they dont mind because with the dissapointment that has been 2012, one of the worst things to happen would be for GSP to lose to hendricks.  Diaz is a high probability win and even with a loss against Anderson GSP will still be champ at 170 and continue to pull big numbers (just like BJ did after taking a beating from GSP).

Of course he did, this fight is easy money... and a lot of it. Silva isn't losing anytime soon so that fight will still be there. And the winner of Hendricks v. Ellenberger (which will probably be Ellenberger) will actually come in with more fan far after they fight each other than Hendricks would've before hand.

1 more thing... if he didn't fight Diaz now, Diaz would probably be the one fighting Ellenberger, a fight he would not be favored to win.

GSP has everything going for him to beat Diaz.
BUT...

He slowed down big time in the 4th round against Condit and he doesn't react well to punches. We all know the pace Diaz keeps and his punch volume is off the hook.

Diaz by TKO in the late 4th/ early 5th round.

Both GSP and Diaz laugh their way to the bank over the rematch.

So to recap; Iole still a mouthpiece for Zuffa. GSP still has a legion of white knights. 209ers still delusional. Big Rig still gets fucked.

And Georges will wait until Anderson Silva's hair turns white before he considers taking that fight. Taking safe to the next level IMO.

What I find most dissapointing is how eagerly the majority of fans just accept these types of decisions.

I like the Diaz brothers as much as anyone, but I strongly disagree with this decision. After watching Ben beat the hell out of Nate for five rounds(heartbreaking), I have no doubt that GSP will do something similar to Nick. It's way too obvious that GSP picked the safest fight, with the second highest payday.
