First time I saw him I saw some potential. After he beat Diaz, I was impressed. Karo, same thing. Now Riggs?

But we hear that every time he steps into the ring. Many believed Riggs was going to KO Sanchez.
I agree it's too soon for GSP, but a year from now? We'll see.
Anyone who thinks that Sanchez is not potentially dangerous to a fighter is just plain stupid.
I agree that GSP is a better fighter, but given Diegos skills, speed and aggression, anyone looking past him may end up on the bottom of a nasty gnp or grappling toe-to-toe to a world class grappler.
I am continuously shocked at the lack of respect this kid gets. Diego might be a nut, but he is a hell of a fighter, and I truly believe, a future champion.
I'd say Diego would beat GSP
He did well against Marcelo Garcia in ADCC which proves his ground game is light years ahead of GSP and thats without ground and pound.
Diego's striking is very tight with very good power in the hands and he is always looking to clinch.

but GSP is Awesome for taking out Hughes but only a rematch would tell how good he is.
Penn would sneak out a victory this time aswell
I honestly believe that Diego can beat BJ and Hughes.
And I believe he would be competitive with GSP,but I wouldn't bet against GSP.
Diego sanchez is my cousin.
Two words for Diego, coachable and gameplan. These words are followed with execution and adaptability. You don't have to have all the skills or the best skills, though he has almost the complete package, you just have to have a gameplan, be coachable, execute your game and be adaptable as needed. He does these things impeccably every time. My vote is for Diego until he gets bored with winning.
Diego is not even top five ability-wise in UFC WW division.
He could not defeat: Hughes, GSP, Fitch, Koscheck or Penn. He would have little chance against these guys now. Alves would also thrash him.
His best bet is to drop to 155, because he is not going to be competitive against the top guys at 170.
When you consider he fought even fights with Diaz and Alessio, who are both good but certainly well below the top level, it should give you a hint as to his level at 170.

Talking about the current playing field. Things change and Koscheck has progressed further than anyone from the first season. He was as raw as they came on that first show -- strictly a wrestler.
It sucks he probably wont get a title shot until late next year.
The UFC will surely pit him against the winner of GSP-Hughes come end of Summer or so. Because of this, I am sure they will pick his next fight carefully. He will probably get one more fight before the title shot. He is fairly marketable right now, and I don't think they will want to ruin that. The fact is he will get blown away by Hughes or GSP, so after that, look for him to drop to 155.
IMHO when it comes to Hughes and GSP the problem I see for diego is the takedown. Can he take them down? His first attempts to take riggs down failded. I see it going the same way with hughes/Gsp.
GSP will avoid the takedown and pick diego apart in the standup.
Hughes will avoid the takedown, trade, maybe get a few takedowns of his own, and get the decision.
