Diego's Next Opponent-Your Opinion

I actually moved this over from another thread, so I appologize for those of you that were following the other thread. I just thought it would be more appropriate.

A quick update on Diego...

Rumors were that he and Ali had broken up but they are actually working things out. He is heading out the San Diego to do a mini camp with Rob Garcia and Ricco Rodriguez. So after that he may be heading to Puerto Ricco to complete another camp with De La Hoya and Rob Garcia.

Diego is under new management and is looking to work his way back into the championship mix in 2008.

He contemplated moving down to the 155 division but has decided to stay at 170. In order to continue to compete at the highest level in that division he has started a new strength program.

He is actually waiting to hear back from Joe Silva regarding his next opponent. He looks to get back into the Octogon in the next coming months.
Feel free to submit your suggestion as far as an opponent the fans would like to see.

There are a few fighters I would like to see him fight. Feel free to comment.

Matt Hughes - But not exactly sure this would be a compelling fight for Matt.

Thiago Alves - Given he wins his upcoming fight.

Marcus Davis - Given he wins his upcoming fight.

Winner of Swick vs. Burkman

Karo - But not Sure Karo would chance another loss to Diego. But again this would be an amazing fight.

Luke Cummo - His name has been thrown around, but I'm not too thrilled about this matchup.

Basically he needs a fight for the fans. Fighters like Alessio and Kos that fight a counter fight and spend the entire fight running and doing their best NOT to loose as oppose to trying to win are just horrible fights for him.

Looking for any final thoughts and opinions on Diego's next opponent, he will be talking with Joe Silva in the coming days.

Yea Diego is definitly working on his hands and is still improving all aspects of his game. But you are correct he lost that fight as oppose to Kos winning. and I beleive that was his game plan " Not to loose as oppose to trying to go in there and actually win".

He's just looking for a good fight for the fans. He really wants to come back stronger than ever and prove himself in 2008.

you want someone to bring it to him..have him tell Joe Silva to bring Larson to the UFC. i don't think this would be a boring fight and even though Larson lost to Condit (sick sub) I think he could hang with most welters in the UFC

Brock or Carlos would be good matchups. Diego and Carlos are actually pretty good friends. Carlos is also from here in Albuquerque. I think he wants to stay at WEC for a while and defend his belt before he moves up to the UFC.

As far as Brock in concerned, my only concern is that a win over Brock would be expected by everybody and that would not do much to increase his stock and status in the division.

Your thoughts?

imo (if it matters) i don't think everyone would expect Diego to win. Brock is one of the biggest welters out there and diego is one of the smallest..great fight imo-both are balls of energy

I'd like to see Kos vs Diego rematch they are both coming off tough losses to top competition (GSP and Fitch respectively) an according to Dana, Diego was suffering from a serious Staph Infection prior to the Kos fight. This fight makes sense and would be a huge draw for the UFC with both fighters being TUF Alums and seriously not liking each other.

why would diego have to fight those guys if they LOSE? He is coming off
a loss himself. LOSER vs LOSER is the usual formula for match ups.

Mac Danzig. I think that would be the proper welcome to the LW division for Mac, and a good test to see exactly where Diego's head is at following his two most recent losses.
