I curious, how much difference is there between the various brands of creatine, as well as the different "systems" (i.e. pill form, powder, etc). I am currently taking 5g/day in pill form, and have been for approx 2 1/2 weeks, but haven't really noticed anyhting at all - would switching top a different brand or system possibly help?
Thanks
Every brand is pretty much the same (as long as the product uses creatine and not rat poison or sand). Some products have dextrose and flavorings which improve taste and delivery by spiking insulin.
You can get the same benefit by mixing pure creatine with Gatorade or any other sugary sports drink.
Creatine is more of a body building supplement. Without using too much science jargon, it helps you do a few more reps. If you're doing 3x3s or running marathons, creatine isn't going to help you at all.
I would go to google and type "creatine cycles". I believe the people who've been taking creatine for a while swear by using it in cycles, you'll get a ton of listings on google.
Thanks! another question - if I'm not really noticing anyhting signifigant, have I just not given it enuff time (2 1/2 weeks), or am I just a "non-responder"?
minotorro, if you loaded the cycle the first week (20 grams per day for
5 days) you should have gained about 5-10 pounds in water weight
stored in your muscles. After the loading cycle, you only need to take
5 grams a day.
I've cycled creatine peiodically and have found noticable differences is
both my ability to train heavy and physical appearance when I'm on it.
I get best results when I cycle on and off ie. 6 weeks on 1 week off.
(My lifting routine focuses on speed and strength.)
Concerning quality, I've been told to stay away from the less expensive
Chinese creatine and to stick with higher grade creatine manufactured
in Germany. Also, I think the pill form is significantly more expensive
than powdered form.
Check out www.drsquat.com. Alot of strength athletes and
powerlifters populate the Q&A forum and someone is always asking
about creatine.
thanks alot! I'll check out the site.
