What’s TJ’s best win? Barão? Garbrandt? Neither win(s) aged well, especially not Barão considering where his career has gone.
TJ’s arguably best win is over Lineker who isn’t even in the UFC anymore.
Most who hold TJ in high regard do so based on performances rather than opponents, which isn’t a good measurement, especially considering he’s been accused of cheating for years before eventually being caught.
Agreed. Caliber of opponents and their career trajectory does.
Oh I forgot to add: Outside of TJ defending his belt against guys he already beat and who were on downward career trajectories, he also defended his belt against Joe Soto!
I was bummed that Soto was the replacement because I went to this show. But Soto`s record wasn’t all that bad at the time.Soto was a TPF champion and the UFC was watching the TPF promotion because of Ian McCall.
I don’t think so. The point is TJ beat guys to make his name who aren’t relevant anymore, and/or who were on downward trajectories. In other words, not real good examples of how good he actually is.
Look at Yan, Aljo, or even Aldo, and they all have wins over top opponents who are still relevant. TJ does not. Sandhagen is close to TJ in this regard, and Saturday will be a great fight for that fact.
Not a bad argument but seems difficult to prove. Plus even if so, TJ just doesn’t have an impressive resume otherwise. Even if we argue he broke two top guys, he followed that by testing positive for PEDs after being accused so for years. That is his legacy.
