It is no secret some fans have far less interest (some almost no interest) in the smaller weight classes. It seems Zuffa has done about verything it can to help make sure this first ever PPV headlined by Flyweights succeeds.
1. A very intriguing #2 vs. #3 WW contest as the co-main event. One of the fighters (Rory MacDonald) probably being the 2nd most popular Canadian fighter ever (and most popular active) and of course the event taking place in Canada.
2. Badar and Feijao are sold, recognizable names. Cavalcante held the Strikeforce LHW belt and Badar won TUF.
3. Ryan Jimmo - another well known Canadian fighter and liked by fans everywhere, not just Canada.
4. Brendan Schaub - also another pretty big name fighter and runner up on TUF.
5. The return of Andre Arlovski just happens to be on this card, too.
Again, it seems Zuffa has supported this card quite a bit and I can't help but think it is partly, or even mainly due to Flyweights headlining it.
Are you planning on purchasing this event and if so is it because of the Flyweight championship or moreso because of the other fights?
And women
I hope not, although it wasn't just the flyweights' fault tonight.
No, but Mighty Mouse at least deserved a chance.
yes, but only for a title fight. And that's partly out of necessity - there's too many events not to have a FW title fight headline some of them.
But they're going to have to start stacking that undercard if they don't build some interest in that division.
