It depends on what you mean by luck. Defining a lucky "punch" the same as you would a lucky shot in pool, then it probably happens pretty frequently. Unfortunately, most fighters don't have time to call their shots, so you never know what was beautifully calculated or extremely lucky.
I mean, a fighter is going to be throwing shots intended to down his opponent, the same as you make a shot in pool to sink a ball. Sometimes a kick that was meant to hurt ends up KO'ing a guy because he dives into it face first (See Liddell vs. Babalu).
I don't think it was lucky that Liddell won that fight, but there was a certain amount of luck involved having Babalu bend over and eat that kick as hard as he did. If it wasn't luck, and Chuck planned it like that from the beginning... that's amazing (but we'll never know until fighters start calling their shots ahead of time).
As I said in this thread, I believe there are lucky wins but that is why there are rematches. It is a low chance that a person would get lucky several times.
good point but the word luck is just thrown around to much it may have been luck or just another veriable in the fight all im saying is that im wishy washy on the way that the way luck is used but thats just me
Okay, for everyone, how about as a competitor---have you been beaten by an opponent that you know is inferior, who would likely only win 1 out of 10 against you? In your heart do you dismiss the win as lucky or attribute it to all the hard work and skill he put into his game? And I mean what you really think deep down, not what you would say out of respect to your opponent.
Yes it does. You guys need to decide what you are arguing about.

[Middle English lucke, from Middle Dutch luc, short for gheluc.]
"Yeah, if you fight 19 fights and win them all and then loose on the 20th fight we'll chalk that up to luck."
But this could be interpreted in different ways:
1) Maybe your opponent got better and you got worse. So you won the matches when you were the better fighter and lost when you were the inferior fighter.
2) Maybe statistically, you're only supposed to win 15 out of 20 fights. But YOU were lucky because you won 19 out of 20. Maybe you should be saying, "I'm so lucky I only lost once."
