Does Goldie even really like mma?

I like Goldie.

None of you could do it any better, not even close.

Jon Anik SUCKS BALLS.

I like Goldie

"and it's all over" Phone Post

I'm on board with the OP. I've long wondered if you walked into Goldie's home, would there be a huge collection of PRIDE, K-1, Shooto, etc DVDs by his TV? If you sidled-up next to him at the bar and talked MMA, could he talk excitedly about the beating Igor put on Enson, or what he thought the first time he saw Sato's flying armbar? I remember when Rampage had just left PRIDE and everyone was wondering weather he'd go to UFC or somewhere else - it was like the Rampage sweepstakes for a while, (and he wound up at the WFA, good move) - and Page was sitting in the second row of a UFC event, right behind two prominent UFC fighters, (I don't remember who). Anyway, Goldie boisterously comments how these two UFC guys are in attendance tonight and then fails to even mention Rampage who's RIGHT THERE in the shot, at which point Joe chimes in with, "and there's Rampage Jackson." I couldn't help but wonder if Goldie even knew who he was.
After all this time in the biz, he still doesn't seem to know very much about it and I'm left to conclude he just doesn't really much care.
The UFC's turned into a real good gig for him, but I think he always hoped it would be a stepping stone to national level sports broadcasting along the lines of MLB, NHL, NBA, Sports Center, etc. I think if one of those offers had come along prior to 2009 or maybe this FOX deal, he'd have split without a second thought.
Just my 2 cents.

Mike Goldberg loves fruit roll ups, Barney the Dinosaur and MMA, in that order.

Being back the fight professor Phone Post

Goldie makes plenty of weird comments, but accusing him of not liking mma is disrespectful imo. Phone Post

There's a video of him somewhere hitting the pads. Phone Post

He is a play by play guy. And like many play by play guys is fan. He gets to tell you what he sees. Even though he doesn't know everything. That is what the color commentator is for (rogan). It is like Anik who is paired with Florian or Kenny Rice on HDNet with Bas. Or The Voice with Pat or Frank. Phone Post

Stretch Armbar - If you don't like Goldie's commentating here is a novel idea: mute the TV and try talking over the action during the upcoming Henderson v Edgar rematch, videotape yourself doing so and then post the video on the UG when finished. Let's see how good at it you are... Seriously, quit bitching and take the challenge. I bet not a single one of the whiny fuckers on this site will do it. Not a damn one. And don't post the fight video, morons. Zuffa will go nuts. Just the video of you running off at the mouth. I can't wait.

It's assholes like this that piss me off more than anything. Why the fuck would anyone else record themselves commentating, you moron? Are they professional commentators? No, they're fans that are paying for the product, and as customers they have the right to say what they dislike about the product that they're paying for.

I've only heard retarded arguments like that shared by MMA fans. Other sports fans are intelligent enough to know how important criticism is, and to criticize someone does not mean you can do better... It just means there are better alternatives, but geeks like you that will pay for anything without even questioning see criticism as tantamount to a declaration that "I can do his job better". No, you jackass, now shut the fuck up!
This guy is too angry but I agree with his main point. E.g.: You don't have to be able to make a better movie to say one is a turd.

Except that you have a bunch of people on here watching a commercial and complaining about it using movie standards. I don't think most of the people criticizing him understand what his job is. His job is to do all the boring stuff while Rogan does the color using his knowledge. Having another expert on there becomes redundant.

I admit that having another expert would be rather redundant, but it would be nice to have someone that is slightly more competent. Goldberg comes off as someone that has absolutely no clue about what he's watching and commentating on, as the OP pointed out, it leaves people wondering if he even watches much MMA. Even the play by play he does just sounds stupid "comes out with a jab does shogun"... That's just ridiculous.

And before some smartass suggests "mute it"... No, why the fuck should I? I'm paying money for this and want the full experience and feel commentary, hearing the crowd, hearing the action itself, is an integral part of a sport for any fan. Besides I like Rogan's commentary for the most part. Goldberg is terrible and it's surprising that so many people actually consider him even "decent".

MarcusRenatoBlackBelt - Goldie is actually a bigger boxing fan. He has Willie Pep DVD's

Lou Dibella disagrees. Phone Post

SlyStallowned - ^ I think your analogy was to make the point that no one can criticize something/someone unless they can do that thing better themself, which makes no sense at all.
If you don't like the way a certain beer tastes, are you only allowed to say its shitty if you yourself can make a better beer? Of course not.

Glad to see you can't even understand your own argument, Mr. SAT!!

Zero chance you're over 18.

TheThrill - Pretty sure he trained (trains?) muay Thai with that school in Boston, not sure tho

He's trained kickboxing.

According to Rogan, he's legit.

And by "trained kickboxing" he means that he spent many years studying the Teep.

He might like the sport, doesn't mean he's knowledgable. Called thousands of fights and still says some of the dumbest shit we've ever heard. Choked out with an Armbar, very Michael Jordanesque in his grappling skills is Travis Lutter. Phone Post

Stretch Armbar - ^^This guy probably did great on his SAT test.

If you don't like my SAT score here is a novel idea: get a pencil and some paper, sit down at a desk, do the damn test then post a PDF scan on this website so we can all read it. I can't wait!!!!

Lol!!!! Phone Post

UGCTT_SidRival - I have often wondered if Mike Goldberg is really even a fan of mma. He almost certainly does not trane and he is consistently wrong in his analysis of the action. Would he even watch mma if he wasn't working for the UFC? Does he watch any fights besides the ones he calls? I feel like he treats his job like a salesman but I'm not buying what he's selling. Phone Post

He's a beast on the pads, I seen footage of him and delegrati trainin Phone Post

First i Will say that being a commentator isn't easy especially with millions watching and Goldberg is okay most of the time but lately has really been getting on my nervous with his commentary it's like he doesn't watch whats going on and makes random long winded comments that usually get interrupted by Rogan. I would love to have Rogan/Pat as team A and the voice/Bonnar as team B. Phone Post

Stretch Armbar - ^^This.

And I thought it was clear that the point was, if you think it is so easy, you need to try it. People are so quick to criticize what they could/would never have the balls or talent to do themselves. I thought that was inferred, as well. Maybe I shouldn't assume when posting here...

Thinking on your feet for an audience of millions will rattle anyone. Goldie is as good as they come, gaffes and all.

Nobody said it was easy. There's a reason why he's probably making a lot more money than most of us do, so it's dumb to say he can't be criticized.

If we follow your logic, I should not criticize a McDonald's employee if he fucks up my order big time because I've never worked at a McDonald's therefore I dunno if I can do that job better than him. So instead, what I should be doing is putting on a McDonald's uniform and start serving people, only then will I have the right to complain about someone fucking up my order. See how retarded that sounds?

Next time if a doctor fucks up a surgery on a patient, he should not be criticized. You record yourself doing that surgery first and show everyone if you can do it or not. Excellent logic.
