does training before breakfast work for fatloss?

I think it does. You hear a lot of things about this on both sides but to me it makes sense that when you wake up is the best time to do cardio. You are in a fasted state and the body is forced to burn fat for energy. Would be pretty tough to do Interval training like this but a steady state on a cardio machine for up to 45 min is pretty manageable and I think you will notice the difference/acceleration in fat loss. Some of it could just be mental I can't say for sure but hey if you believe in something it often just works on that alone. Also I think it's just a good way to start your day, gets the blood flowing and wakes you up and you start the day with energy and you send you mind and body a very clear signal that training and working toward your goal is a high priority because it's the first thing you think of and first thing you do.

I used to run first thing in the morning because it was the only time i could run, i never noticed any difference, but i was already pretty lean back in those days Phone Post

Solid post. I work out before breakfast and although I'm not focusing on fat loss, I find that my metabolism "feels" higher throughout the day (higher body temperature, hungrier, etc.). If I was looking to cut fat, I think it would be pretty easy with pre-breakfast workouts. Phone Post

RobinHood - Higher met rate is not b/c of the fasted state. Phone Post

Cortisol, correct? Phone Post

I use it for weight loss but I couldn't comment specifically on fat loss. I get leaner while doing it, but I only do it when I'm in 'fight camp', where I'm dieting and training harder anyway so it's hard to say how much of that is solely down to the pre-breakfast training. I imagine it helps, and it definitely helps me bring the weight down, likely contributing to the aforementioned leaner mass.

I think you do burn a little more fat working out fasted, but that alone is not going to cause you too lose 20 lbs in a month. Your diet is 90% of weight loss.

IMO...and I've done it before...running before breakfast is counter productive... I def notice that I've burnt some carb stores by doing it...but my energy level is zero and by the time I'm done I end up eating a larger breakfast.. even if it speeds up your metabolism you'll feel like dogshit Phone Post

I'll piggy back those who have said low-intensity cardio before breakfast seems to be effective for fat loss. But I've yet to come across the studies for this, maybe I'll try to find a good one and post it. Phone Post
