People seem to be saying that Nate really did genuinely have low test, but that low test could be because of doing steroids in the first place:

What I think happens is, when your body recieves these things from an outside source, like anaboloic steroids. It cuts down on their natural production. So your natural production is diminished while on steroids. It works on a feedback system, your body sees it is getting these things from elsewhere so it stop producing it itself. And sometimes they have a hard time turning back on correctly once you stop the artifical treatment. That is why it usually happens after you stop taking steroids. The natural cycle was kind of fucked up by this outside source. That's why it happens to people when they have done steroids for a while but then stop taking them. Which there is evidence Marquardt did. He was on roids then probably stopped using them, then this happened.
