Double overhand with false grip for deadlifts?

So I deadlift with a sumo stance and grip the bar with a plain double overhand grip. It works fine for the most part, but as I get better it doesn't work as well during my days when I perform a 1 or 3 rep max. There are moments when the bar is kind of hanging from my 4 fingers and feels like it is more in front of me ever so slightly. I'm afraid one of these days it is going to roll off more and that this could lead to back injury.

I don't like the under/over grip and my thumbs are often mangled from grappling which makes the hook grip very uncomfortable, so I was wondering if it was a good idea to use a double overhand style of lifting with a false grip (my thumb next to me four fingers).

Any thoughts?

It'll make for strong hands that is for sure.

I use a double overhand false grip as well. For lighter sets, I'm fine, but as Leign mentioned, if I am goin up into the 1 to 3 rep range, I consider using straps. If not, I just acknowledge that I am going to be limited by the strength in my fingers more than my back.
