Good writer, decent speaker, but seems a bit out of his depth in debates.

A shame, really, he has great material for debates, but he allows opponents to "handle" him in ways he should not....

His Ronald Reagan fetish is unnerving as well as his complete blind spot when it comes to the hideous atrocities committed by the man he more or less worships.

I've only seen his attacks on atheism, and I think they're terribly written.

I'm not entirely sure how he's become popular.

I think a sizable chunk of his fame extends from his "wunderkind" status in the 80's that was born after he was brought in to work for the criminal Reagan administration.

Also, he wrote a book in the mid-1990's called, "The End of Racism" that generated a massive amount of controversy from the right and left (if I remember correctly a prominent black conservative college at the Hoover Institute resigned because he felt the book was overtly racist) due to his general thesis which stated that racism was basically an old concept in the united states and that everyone (especially black people) should just get over it.

I read most of the book (it was destroyed when my house burned down) and I found it to be unconvincing at best and insulting at worst (his theory is rooted in his belief that because he and his family made it as immigrants from India, black people should be able to put those pesky problems of oppression and poverty aside and jump on-board the consumerist bandwagon).

GrandInquisitor - I think a sizable chunk of his fame extends from his "wunderkind" status in the 80's that was born after he was brought in to work for the criminal Reagan administration.
I'd imagine adding the word "criminal" in front of any particular presidency would be seen as redundant :-P

"His Ronald Reagan fetish is unnerving as well as his complete blind spot when it comes to the hideous atrocities committed by the man he more or less worships."

considering Ronald Reagan is in large part responsible for a world where one of the worst mass murdering political doctrines in human history is now resigned to the trashbin of history, I'm gonna have to laugh at your "hideous atrocities" shit.

I don't like the guy for other reasons, but in the grand sum of saving human lives, bringing about the downfall of Communism is up there.

Downfall of Communism? Exactly what does that mean? Last time I checked, there are numerous Communist regimes across the world, including the Peoples Republic of China, which more or less subsidizes American consumerism.

Reagan was in office when the Soviet Union broke apart, but saying the Reagan administration brought down the Soviet Union is a complete joke. The USSR essentially crumbled from within due to gerentocracy at the top of the political elite, a failed imperialistic thrust into Central Asia, and an overall corruption of any Socialist ideals that had been smashed during the Stalinist era (when, by the way, the USSR was a major ally of the United States).

Although Reagan had nothing to do with the collapse of the USSR, if we pretend he did, than he is in part to blame for the mafia-kleptocracy that has taken hold in the new, "free and democratic", Russian Federation.

Also, if Reagan is to be credited for toppling the USSR, we must also heap praises upon him for propping up the Taliban during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Reagan began the flow of money and arms that went DIRECTLY to the mujahedin that fought against not only the Soviets, but also the pre and post-war Socialist governments that were democratically elected.

But those Taliban guys turned out to be cream puffs...right? They would never attack the United States...

"Downfall of Communism? Exactly what does that mean? Last time I checked, there are numerous Communist regimes across the world,"

if by "numerous" you mean "handful".

"including the Peoples Republic of China, which more or less subsidizes American consumerism."

by rejecting the core economic tenets of Communism and become more or less a politically fascistic reminant regime that doesn't screw around with it's semi-capitalist economy too much.

sorry, trying to pass those statements off as accurate is enough fail for me not to bother with the rest of the post.
