Josh Grispi was scheduled to challenge Jose Aldo at UFC 125 on Jan 1, for the featherweight championship in the co-main event of the evening, but Aldo was forced to pull out of the fight on Tuesday due to compressed vertebrae in his neck.
Jutst 24 hours later, Featherweight Dustin Poirier has agreed to fill in for injured UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo and will face Josh Grispi..
Poirier last faced Zach Micklewright at “WEC 53: Faber vs. Mizugaki.” The Louisiana native swarmed Micklewright from the opening bell, beating him via TKO in just 53 seconds.
Not the fact that they are making the fight, but that it's for the title. From the sound of it, Aldo isn't going to be out for a long period of time. They should just reschedule the fight between he and Grispi for a few months down the road. This really shows how desperate they are to find another fight besides Edgar/Maynard to be at the top of this card. They know how little appeal that fight holds, and that it will probably be a snoozer.
It's not for the title, Somewhere in there, you misread it. They're not going to strip Aldo of the title that they gave him 5 days ago

Yes, whereas adding Grispi/Poirier will get the masses clamoring to order the card. Two guys no one but the absolute most hardcore fans have ever even heard of. What on earth makes you think this would be at the "top of this card"?
By the way, the first Edgar/Maynard wasn't a snoozer, so I don't know why this one would be.

Couldn't it be for the interim championship?
Why would it be? Aldo pulls out of one fight that was only a few months after his most recent one, with a temporary injury....it's not like Carwin vs Mir, where you didn't know if Lesnar would ever be coming back...Aldo should be back soon
Sux for Grispi. He was co-main event and gonna win the UFC belt and be a huge star. And aldo...who never won the belt pulls out and now it's a prelim vs a guy he will get no props for.I fear aldo is actually out for awhile...and if so, josh deserves interim belt shot after this. And hopefully unlike aldos that 1 will be won in the cage.
