DVDs through computer?

basically my computer = my DVD player.

i have my HDTV hooked up to my computer via DVI. question is does my DVD drive up-convert DVDs?

the drive is the Sony DVD-RW DRU-530A.

What do you mean by up-convert DVDs? If you're asking if the DVDs will play in HD, no they wont; the data simply isn't there on the disc

im talking about whatever it is upconvert DVD players do.

"Solution: DVD player with video upconversion. These players can upconvert DVD video to a resolution that more closely matches that of your HDTV. The signal remains digital as it travels through digital video connections to your compatible high-def TV for the cleanest possible transfer. (For more information, see "Digital Video and Upconversion" below.)"

does my computer do that?

Every DVD player on the PC upconverts. The only way it doesn't is if you tell it to run in the DVDs native res. Whatever you have your PC connected to (Monitor, HDTV, projector) will show the upconverted picture depending on what resolution you're displaying at the time.

ok thanks. great!

how do i check on this? just in case...
