DFW has said this or something close to it a number of times when two guys before the fight go on and on about how they are going to destroy each other, the fight is going to be a war, it’s going to be something fans always remember, etc. And then fight night comes and they end up cautiously circling each other and throwing single jabs the whole time, resulting in a boring ass decision.
I hope to hell this doesn’t happen with Jones vs. DC or I am going to be really pissed. They are both talking mad smack right now about how this and that is going to happen and what they are going to violently do to one another.
DC had better not end up being afraid to try to get inside on Jones. And Bones had better not be afraid of throwing high kicks or fully committing with his strikes because he doesn’t want to get taken down.
Is anyone else concerned this will be yet another “bark bigger than the bite” fight or is this one actually going to live up to the smack talk?
That's true, especially with JJ. His fights with QJ and Rashad were terrible. Another that sticks out was Kos/Diego. I think they don't want to lose so bad to someone they don't like, and both get real conservative.
hes right..fighters talk so much shit they get scared to lose face and fight conservatively
Not when it came to Chael
Or Chuck vs Tito
BJ Penn vs Sherk
Brock vs Mir
There does seem to be a correlation between shit talk and shitty fights. I guess it just adds more pressure to an already high pressure situation.
Jones isn't your average fighter that loses his mental edge. He has come
Out with a
Dominant game plan every fight and won everynight. Thinking bones won't show
Up is absurd
When has Jones ever been in a crappy fight? Refresh my memory.

Off the top of my head, there was a huge disparity in the amount/level of smack talk vs. the actual quality of the fight when he and Rashad got it on. I think there are like three total highlights usually shown from the entire 25 minutes, and all are elbows Jones lands while they are in the clinch.
I wouldn't necessarily call it a "crappy" fight, but the two of them sure as hell talked a lot more than fought when it came to that encounter.

Probably my least favourite Jones fight from a pure entertainment perspective.
My least favourite was watching Shogun look like he had never been in a fight before.

You know what, you're right. I've changed my mind - that was a crappy fight considering all the talk the two of them did and with the history of one leaving the camp not long after the other arriving, etc.
That fight was lackluster and I believe Jones even admitted afterwards he was hesitant in that fight. And Evans made almost no effort to try and get inside. How he thought he could possibly win that fight staying on the outside is beyond me.
I thought the Jones Rampage fight was also not as good as the hype.
But doubt Jones or DC let this one be a snoozer
It's true ,fooled me to many times lol fight with be boring
Seems like when it is just trash talking that holds true. However when you have two guys trying to go physically after each other because they are so pissed then no.
I can see DC winning a super boring fight
Condit vs diaz was a prime example.
let's face it both these guys know how to hit the SNOOZE button
I've been saying it for a while, this will be Bones vs Shad all over again.
