Some NBA players try to limit their time talking to the media. Lakers center Dwight Howard is not one of those players.

His pregame and practice chats can be informal rap sessions on a wide range of topics. On Tuesday, Howard declared which NBA player should join MMA.

"There's one guy in the NBA right now who could be probably the best MMA fighter in the world . . . Pekovic from Minnesota," Howard said. "I swear. I swear he looks like he could be a great MMA fighter."

"Based on his body, I'm telling. He could go to MMA and be the champion. Have you seen Pekovic? He's 7 feet. He's 300 pounds."

Howard roped Lakers assistant coach, Darvin Ham, into the conversation. After a moment's thought, Ham enthusiastically agreed with Howard.

"Yes, yes with that neck," Ham said. "He'd be a helluva MMA fighter."

What NBA player do you think would shine in MMA?

All of a sudden...I think Andrei Arlovski could be a great NBA player...

His tattoo needs some pitbulls.

Seems like rock-solid reasoning to me. The dude is tall, weighs 300 pounds, and has a thick neck. Everyone knows a thick neck is the best base to come into MMA with... fuck wrestling.

Another gem from "basketball players say stupid shit." More to follow shortly.

We need to get him some neat-o Affliction shirts, hair-dye, and a hot bitch to stand next to him STAT.

He ain't Kermit Washington

gamer - ^ haha what a cheap shot'n faggot Kermit Washinhton is

That dude was running too.. He literally ran face first into his fists

I would like to see Kermit in a legit one on one fight. He gets his ass kicked by any decent MMA fighter of the same size. Hell, I bet some really great smaller fighters could still beat his ass. A grizzly European would beat his ass in a fair one on one fight too IMO

To be fair, the gif doesn't show the fight that already broke out between Kareem and some guy first. He was going on the the whole defend your teammate principle, and fighting and cheap shots during play were totally normal and acceptable then.

It is bad when someone literally almost gets killed though. I think that was the first thing that caused the NBA to move in a direction that tried to prevent fights.

Wow, the stupidity in that comment is overwhelming. Phone Post

For Nate Robinson's (5'9", 180) takedown on J.R. Smith (6'5", 220) at about 16 seconds in.

gamer - I want to see more international dudes dominating MMA. Europeans, Russians etc

Im sick and tired of all the American Wrestlers like Rashad, Phil Davis, Jon Jones etc

MMA is a global combat sport

Every body can do it. It should take every bodys interest

YET it is just not catching on, and people are not taking notice of it around the world

In order for MMA to truly become a popular and global combat sport, there needs to be more international stars to keep interest etc

I bet you there is some bezerker born fighter dude in Brazil or Russia with tons of untapped potential who would murder Jon Jones if given the same time and training etc but he never takes interest in MMA

I will say it again. MMA NEEDS more INTERNATIONAL DUDES

And truth is there are TOO many American wrestlers like Rashad, Phil Davis, Jon Jones. Its getting stale

You say it like you dont think theres bad motherfucker wrestlers in europe. Or are you just simply wanting more people from different countries and are totally fine with having some wrestler named Slava or Sergei whatever?

Also the sport is still young and theres still plenty of resistance to it here in the states. Other countries are also still new to it as a sport. For sure theres probably dudes out there that could be JBJ but the sport needs time to grow. Also not everyone wants to get punched in the face for a living. Its a niche sport and IMO will always be somewhat of a niche sport. There will be names that people recognize and all but most kids grow up thinking they want to soccer or football or baseball or whatever it is that doesnt involve the prospect of them getting their asses beat. I imagine it takes a certain type of person to even WANT to be a fighter let along someone who will be successful at it.

Interesting

Also, cheap shots should never be acceptable. It bothers me when I ever I see a cheap shot. Its crazy that they were normal back then (according to what you just told me)

gamer - Also, its a shame MMA interest has completely died off in Japan (or at least thats what i've read has happened) Japan was producing some good and enteratianing Japanese fighters when MMA was really big there

Hell, Asians practically CREATED MARTIAL ARTS

I would love to see more great asian fighters like a Sakaruba

Greeks brought martial arts to Asia with Alexander The Great if you believe some folks, but Asians improved on a lot of it. Phone Post
