i would consider myself a friendly acquaintance of jason mackay, but that decision was a joke. it should have been a dq, and krysa should have been well up on the scorecards. it wasn't a 'domination' imo, but he was clearly up. i actually felt like jason would finish him in the third, he looked to be getting stronger and krysa looked to be gassing, but it didn't get that far. and i certainly can understand not continuing after a full force upkick to the front of the throat. hopefully that decision is not indicative of things to come as far as hometown decisions (even though i am a haligonian), it would be sad to see the place end up like the joke that is the quebec commission.

E.C.C. - Disgust, Distrust, Disappointment
An open letter to MMA fans, the powers that be and the good people of Halifax.
To call the kick that Jason Mc Kay delivered to Shaun Krysa in their recent E.C.C. fight an accident is laughable. By definition it would suggest that Jason was trying to execute a different technique and inadvertently struck Shaun. I was there ringside, I have seen the video, Jason delivered exactly the technique he intended. Jason made an error in his judgment, to which he felt sorry about afterwards, but that should not take away from the fact that he now holds the E.C.C. lightweight title on the pretense that he actually won the fight fairly and under the accepted rules of M.M.A.
I have found in the past Jason to be a lot stronger of character than this weekend and frankly I am surprised that he is not the first one asking for this title fight to be called a NO CONTEST. I am however not sure what influence others had on his post-fight interview, but suggesting that Shaun might have been gassed instead of being hurt from the obvious illegal kick to the face simply lowers my estimation of who I thought to be a quality person and genuinely sincere competitor.
We have all seen many similar occurrences, in larger more established events that have ended with the correct results.
World Freestyle Fighting - Dennis Hallman vs. Denis Kang - No contest as a result of an illegal up kick on a grounded opponent
Elite XC - Frank Shamrock vs. Renzo Gracie - Disqualification due to illegal knee strike to the head on grounded opponent
Rumble on the Rock - Yushin Okami vs. Anderson Silva - Disqualification due to illegal up kick
Etc...
It was less than impressive when Jason's corner/manager/promoter/referee advisor took it upon himself, to get the crowd into the booing at Shaun, while he was down from what was obviously a vicious illegal heel kick to the face. I have supported the E.C.C. organization from their first show, bringing 5 fighters out to their first card and fighting for them up until now. I can't tell you from a coaches point of view how thoroughly disappointed I was in this weekend's fiasco.
When the lines between corner/manager/promoter/referee advisor get blurred, there can only be problems. I have suggested since the first show that it is not in good taste or even appropriate that the promoter also fulfill the role of corner man for fights. More discouraging is when at the pivotal point in a championship match the referee goes over the opponent's corner to seek direction in what call he should make.
This M.M.A. community of ours is a small one, it is time for all the promoters to step up and take on a true leadership in our sport in Canada, show the fighters that you actually understand what happens inside those ropes or cages.
Sincerely,

i agree with this, i believe in some places you can only hold one license, promoter or corner, and i think that's a good rule.
Well to me if fighters are going to ride the edge of the rules. Like waiting to up kick one second after they see there opponent is not grounded, is smart. That being said I have a hard time to believe it is an accident when the kick lands 1 second early. To me it is obvious that the fighter has studied the rules and is smart enough to know the difference.
The remainder of the post-fight video interviews are up now.
Check out my interviews with Ricardeau Francois, Roger Hollett, Shaun Krysa, Jason MacKay, Tannaya Hantelman, Valerie Letourneau, and opponents Cory MacDonald & Rowan Cunningham together with Ali Nestor Charles.

Chris Boreland,
Have you considered an appeal to the commission in Halifax?? I would
think that you have more than enough to back up your claim. It is not
going to look good for the ECC if this decision stands. Again just my 2
cents.
Unfortunately, when this kind of scenario happens in smaller events, with a relatively close relationship between the officials and the event itself the relationship sometimes becomes somewhat interdependent. In the past, the several events that my team has had the opportunity to participate in at E.C.C., the commission has been awesome. Regrettably in this case the powers that be will tend to say that their judgment is that the kick was "accidental" therefore the referee acted appropriately and therefore there is no problem. All commissions must back up there man in the ring.
I did make attempts to petition the referee at the moment of impropriety and he said that he took a point off? 'After consulting with the other corner'. I then went to the head referee, but was shut down and told that the referee's judgment stands. Both Shaun and I made attempts to meet with the commissioner of the Nova Scotia Boxing Commission, but he had left the building before we could get access to him.
At this point I would appreciate any help I can get with regards to my ability to petition the judgment. Addresses, phone numbers or contact info. I do this with the realization that if past history repeats itself, there will be nothing done and two weeks from now we will all be talking about something else. But I must try.
On the lighter side, be sure to see Cory speak very well, and me be a drunk fool on:

haha! Good times:)
Rowan
Hey Rowan, I wish I could have been there to see you and Cory fight. I
heard it was a great one!!
Cory came by the club today and he has nothing but respect for your skill.
We were extremely worried about your ground game, and with good
reason apparently. Cory was telling me he has never grappled with
anyone as good as you are/were in that fight. And he's grappled with
many BJJ blackbelts, wrestlers, etc.
Also, he was commenting on how much of a great guy you were and how
you were very nice to him before and after the fight. Keep up the good
work, your a class act all the way.
link to pics??
Congrats to Rowan and Matt on hard-fought matches.
that is such bullshit. He wasnt even attempting to stand, How can you say
that is an accident, I smell a lot of bull shit hear
Wow, that was an incredibly blatant foul.... Look at the youtube video, he's nowhere CLOSE to standing.
New tactic for ECC competitors. Have your cornerman hit your opponent in the head with a crowbar. While he's unconscious, claim victory and win judges decision.
A video never lies!! That looked 100% intentional......that dude was head hunting!
ttt for the Borelands Crew!!
That was pretty dirty looking. There was no attempt by Krysa to stand up
at all. If that shit decision stands it is a real shame for Krysa.
Congratulations Cory, you are a true warrior...training through a very difficult injury and coming out victorious! See you soon.
