1-1...LOL! Rashad vs. Lyoto II actually makes sense but there is no way Rashad will sign on for that match, especially if he has already been granted a title shot.
"Honestly, we'd like to fight 'Shogun,'" Machida's manager, Ed Soares, today told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio). "Now it's 1-1. It's even. Let's do this rubber match. Let's figure this out. Granted, he won by decision and Lyoto won decisively (my edit - uh, that seems mixed up?), but anyone can get caught in this sport. He went in for the kill, and unfortunately, he got caught.
"Since 'Shogun' is out – they're saying until March – personally, when there's an injured champion, I would love to see maybe a Rashad-Lyoto match for the interim title. I think that would be something that would be cool, and the winner of that would get to fight 'Shogun' when he's all healed up in the spring of next year."
Clearly you're underestimating the fighter ego. Even Fedor has an ego with his "fuck you and your strengths" approach. Rashad will more than likely be all over thisto redeem himself.
Machida should have to win a couple fights before he gets another title shot, be it interim or not. I personally wouldn't want to see Shogun end up fighting the same guy 3 times in a row.
Why would Machida get an Instant title shot, why not have him fight somebody else first and work his way up? Machida/Rampage makes more sense. In my humble opinion
If Rashad fights machida he will get blazed like the first time. i understand fighters wanting to redeem themselves for the sake of their ego or whatever, but there are cases where this is not that smart.
An example of this was Franklin vs Silva. Franklin was completely and utterly obliterated standing in their first fight. The changes he needed to make to beat Silva would take years of training, not just a few months. but for whatever reason, he took the fight, got blazed again, then was left in no mans land @185. This will be Rashad's fate if he tries to take Machida again.
No disrespect to rashad's skills, but the Machida fight showed that he had NO idea and couldn't read anything Machida did. And considering there is hours and hours of machida footage for him to study, and he still had nothing, I don't think a second shot is a good idea for him just yet.
It will be interesting to see if the UFC let this happen or not.
It makes sense, but at the same time I would like to see an up and comer get a chance, Im getting tired of the top 4 guys continually fighting each other.
Is anybody else tired of Ed Soares pretending he's Anderson Silva? Saying Vitor hasn't earned a title shot, and now that Machida should fight for an interim belt.
