Eddie Bravo- rule question for EBI

I noticed in SUG with Shields and Danis and meow in rewatching some old EBI matches that it's considered a back escape if you turn into bottom mount. What are your thoughts on this, or the rationale behind it? Seems kind of a cheap way to defend to me and I know of other organizations that make you return to a neutral space (or reestablish guard).

In the point system if you go from the mount to the back you get 4 points because you improved your position. But going from the back to the mount gets you zero points because it's considered going backwards.

I had to decide on a cut off point when it comes to eacapes. Yes I could've kept it live when competitors go from the back to the mount but we're on time constraints, we gotta keep the show moving swiftly.

Its still live tho, if you got the back but transition into an arm triangle or any other variation of a choke that comes off the back

Gotcha, and makes sense. Thanks for responding dude!!

Eddie, here's another EBI rule question. For overtime positioning, would s-mount be considered an armbar start position, as long as the top guy keeps the armbar threaded through? If he lets the nearside arm go, I'd say the submission is lost. If not a starting position, what about transitioning to s-mount with the arm still isolated? I asked my coach Russ Miura and he said it never came up during his rules meetings that he could remember.

eddie good

Can't start in S mount in OT, dude on offense has to have his butt on the ground, but it's still live in S mount as long as the arm is still hooked/threatened

Do you mean in an IBJJF type format going from mount to back is 4 points but back to mount is none? I was not aware of this and thought it was 4 points for each as both are seen as the most dominant position in bjj.

I'm almost positive in ibjjf if you go from back to mount you still get an additional 4 points.  Mount and Back control points are awarded for the position, not the action (such as a sweep or guard pass).  Can anyone else clarify?
