Connor McGregor has been talking about his title shot a lot lately; he believes a win over Dennis Siver in Boston will earn him that title shot. Frankie Edgar disagrees. Edgar is currently ranked third in the division and fights Cub Swanson this weekend who is ranked second. Connor McGregor is ranked fifth and will be fighting eighth ranked Dennis Siver in January.

Edgar believes that the winner of his fight with Cub Swanson should determine a clear cut number one contender and would be upset if McGregor jumps the line:
"I would probably be upset," Edgar said about McGregor potentially getting that next title shot. "I'm not one to be a baby about anything. I get how this works. I'm obviously going to lobby for it. I'm going to make the calls and do what I've got to do to put myself in the talks. If I'm the best the world and I believe I'm the best in the world, then I need to be able to beat anybody. If I have to beat one more person then so be it.
"But I'm going to be vocal that I want the title shot, and I believe I earned it. Conor's talking as if he has the title already. I'm not going to do that. I know Cub is as serious a threat as they come."
Frankie's title shot against Aldo was one of of the most undeserved in UFC history. Who gets a title shot after 2 loses in a row?... He has no room to complain that's just crazy
I'm much more interested in other fights at 145 for Edgar, can't we establish him amongst his peers in the division and appreciate the style rather than just shove him in title fights after he beats a single ranked opponent.
If Frankie beats Cub, then Frankie and Lamas can fight to see who deserves the rematch. At that point the winner would have a 3-4 fight win streak and will have beaten 2 top 10 opponents, which I think is fair since neither really showed much in their first fight with Aldo to make us think that a second would go differently.
If this fight goes to decision then I can see Conor jumping everyone for a title shot. So Cub or Frankie better end the fight in spectacular fashion if they want the next shot at Aldo.
Frankie is my all time favorite fighter so I want him to get a title shot but I want Conor to get the shot first. Why? Because I want fresh faces and it would be an exciting fight against Aldo. Let Frankie come in and stomp a mudhole in Conor after. :)
Pitbull3744 - I love big Frankie but im sure not everyone was happy when he got his title fight against Aldo. He kind of skipped the line also. I know he was champ at 55 so that was a factor but im just saying.
It's a fair point. I'd personally rather see other guys get a shot who haven't previously had one.
Frankies last 5 fights. Lost 3, beat a journeyman and a fallen legend. Hardly deserving a title rematch against someone he recently lost soundly to.
When the UFC do the sums, I think Conor Aldo trumps everything. In an Irish stadium (although I foresee Jose pulling out weeks before with 'an injury').
