ESPN Proves UFC Champ Jon Jones is Genetic Freak

One of the biggest advantages Jon Jones enjoys each time he steps into the octagon are his long limbs. The reigning UFC light heavyweight king is able to keep his opponents at bay, while landing from over three feet away.

Jones can connect from over five feet out when he executes a Superman punch.

How do we know that? Because ESPN’s SportsScience squad did some number crunching and broke down Jones’ stats.

Jones has 34.5 inch-long arms, which puts his wingspan at 84.5 inches. How does that help his MMA game, you ask? Longer arms means faster speed at the point of contact.

Jones’ spinning elbows clock more than 900 degrees per second, which is faster than the blades on Apache helicopter.

As far as submissions are concerned, Jones’ lanky limbs allow him to crank at 500 pounds of force. That’s more than 50 times of force required to cut off circulation to an opponent’s brain (Please see: Lyoto Machida at UFC 140).

Jones takes his heavy artillery into the cage Saturday to defend his throne against Glover Teixeira at UFC 172.
