Ethernet Switches?

So in my room I have my desktop computer and my xbox one, however I only have 1 ethernet port. I'm currently running the desktop on the wired ethernet, and the xbox one running on wifi. Well the wifi sucks and i'm tired of using it on my xbox, I want wired lol. So I'm looking at ethernet switches, although i'm not very familiar with them.

If I get this would I be able to plug in both my desktop and xbox one and use them at the same time without losing any speed? would something else be better for my situation? TME, VU's to any help.

Yes. You can plug one cable from the router into the port of the switch and then plug the computer and xbox each into two other ports and you're good to go.

And it won't change/mess up the speed i'm getting on them right?

could just upgrade your wireless router, most have multiple ports?

how old is your router.

yes, what you posted would work.

Nope, not if u get a decent one.. Didn't click the link, but the netgear prosafe gigabit should be fine for your needs Phone Post 3.0

Forgot to quote, read my last post lol Phone Post 3.0

It shoudn't, unless you have an incredibly fast internet connection, then the switch will not be the bottleneck and should be able to handle both devices being actively online at the same time as it is now, but without the wireless issues.

To do that I would have to rewire the walls, which is not an option.

Are there any differences between these two? one is the one I posted in the OP, and the other is the netgear prosafe gigabyte that a guy mentioned. They seem to have the same specs though?

Just voted up the entire thread

I'd just get the cheapest gigabit switch you can find. Make sure you look on monoprice.com Phone Post 3.0

I'm just gonna pick one up on my way home from work tonight at best buy, they have both of the ones I posted, so i'll probably just grab one of those.

Get the prosafe if it's cheap enough.. A good switch is like a well paved road.

I have a 32 port gigabit switch running my entire home network with Control4 automation, my switch shit the bed and my entire house was fucked! Couldn't even turn on a tv! #firstworldproblems Phone Post 3.0
