Evan Tanners death..

Miletich told Rogan that he thinks Tanner went out there as a man on a mission i.e. To die basically…I forget the details of his death…he went out hiking correct and was vastly unprepared for the climate or surroundings?was he depressed prior to going out? History of drug use?

Tanner would have been a great guest on Rogans podcast

I’m of the opinion that he had mental issues, but I haven’t seen anything to indicate he was on a suicide mission. He went unprepared and made a mistake in an unforgiving climate. Perhaps his mental issues factored into how he made that mistake, but it’s the type of mistake many people make every year.

Well he abused alcohol and IIRC when he went into the desert he intended on camping. Not sure why he left his camp but he clearly went too far out and took little water with him. It always broke my heart knowing they found a bunch of water at his camp after discovering him.

He definitely had issues with depression (from what I can see) and seemed mentally ill. He came across as such a genuine guy who wanted to help everyone else, but regrettably neglected to care for himself. RIP big man.

I thought he was camping and knew there was a local pond (or something usually filled with water) so he didnt bring much with him.  It was uncharacteristically hot that year so it was completely dry with nothing to drink.

This is amazing by the way.  Havent watched it in years

He wasn’t trying to die.

Yup.

He was doing internet updates and assuring everyone he was preparing properly.

He got to where he intended to go but the waterhole was unexpectedly dry and he didnt have enough to get back.

But there was also something about not wanting them to send for help after his bike ran out of fuel or something. And that he was gonna hike through the night when it was cooler.

He didnt want to die. He had lots of supplies. He just kind of carelessly ran out of fuel, then he went hiking to what was supposed to be a spring that he saw on a map. Well the spring was dry and he was now to far out. It was human error that cost him his life.

WAR TANNER

The sad thing was, had he of walked to the top of one of the hills - he would have been able to see his way back. I liked Tanner. A huge overachiever. Derailed the David Terrell hype train. Was supposed to lose to Robbie Lawler and triangled him. Baroni was supposed to beat him and he smashed Baroni.

Nobody ever gave that guy a chance.

Not every single thing that ever happens has to have a conspiracy attached to it. His comment about going on the trip contradicts Miletich if he’s saying that Tanner wanted to die.

“So my plan is to go out to the desert, do some camping, ride the motorcycle, and shoot some guns. Sounds like a lot of fun to me. A lot of people do it. This isn’t a version of ‘Into the Wild.’”

It’s simple: he went camping alone in an environment he had no skillset for or understanding of how deadly it was. In that type of environment you can NOT be drinking alcohol. He made a mistake and having his motorcycle break down in that situation was a death sentence. If it were in the mountains somewhere he’d still be around.

It sucks. Let the guy be. There’s no conspiracy or mystery. You world-class psychologists and psycho-analysts doing your evaluations through the internet on someone you never met are massive shitbags and have zero idea what you are talking about. Go back to your video games and sucking at life.

Tanner had some issues but I really doubt he went out there with the intent to kill himself. Now he did have some personality traits that combined with misfortune led to his demise. One could argue his cavalier attitude, lack of proper training/knowledge and his belief in himself was a recipe for disaster. It caused him to take chances others wouldn’t and when combined with some bad luck led to his death. However that same spirit led to become a UFC champion as well. And ultimately that’s the life of a risk taker. You can end up with great rewards and you can also wind up perishing before your time in a tragic manner. This is exactly what happened to Evan. May he rest in peace.

THis. The story of him buying a sailboat , not getting any training, then wrecking it, is pretty indicative of his personality. Sad story, he seemed like a great guy

yea that was weird

Classic case of stuff going wrong and turning a moderate adventure into a life and death situation. Happens all the time. Not deadly in most cases. But a few wrong moves sometimes is all it takes.

Sad that his GPS tracker showed he was really close to the town of Palo Verde.  If he were not dehydrated he could have maybe figured it out.  It looked seriously like maybe a mile.

He like to a “spring” at the top of a mountain ridge where he thought he could get water. Had he asked any local rangers they would have notified him that the spring is usually dry especially at the time he went.

At at the top of that ridge he should have been able to see Palo Verde, but instead of going that direction he thought he could make it back to camp. He did send text messages though to send help if they didn’t hear from him.

I think it got dark dark and he wasn’t able to find camp before nightfall. The next day he was too dehydrated and disoriented to make it back.

Rangers said if he would had had stayed at the spring it would have also been a easy rescue when they were notified. Just several wrong moves in dangerous conditions.
