They, and the Irish, had quite the presence in NYC construction unions. In my time, their influence was greatly reduced due to the Feds stepping in, but there were plenty of wannabes and has-beens who would start their "do you know who I am?" shit when they didn't get their way.
I also used to live in Woodside, Queens. Most of the retired Hells Kitchen mob ended up there. The head business agent of one of the ILA locals on the Jersey side was one of my neighbors. He always offered to get me in. I like where I was at the time, though. I should've taken him up on it. Those guys have all sorts of rackets.
Persicos, Gambinos, Varios. My father was a lawyer in Bay Ridge since the 70s and did civil lawsuits on some peoples’ bahalfs, never any of their criminal cases, though once in a great while he would get a call in the middle of the night to help bail someone out. He was also friends with Julius Nasso, the guy who produced and extorted money from Steven Segall before Segall rolled on him and sent his brother to jail. He used to have a lot of marble, gold, and suits of armor in his house. Nasso also owned Lowen’s Drug store where John Rossi myseriously committed suicide by shooting himself multiple times in the chest and torso.
Two guys with the Hells Angels. I don’t know if they were actual members or just prospects, but they were connected. And before anyone says Hells Angels is just an MC and not a criminal organization, spare me the bullshit.
One guy who had something to do with some Vietnamese street gang. Or maybe he was Hmong. He had some weird number tattoos. I never asked.
I only knew these guys through training. We all rolled at the same gym. Whether consciously or unconsciously, no one talked about that stuff in a direct manner. We were there to train.
The Hells Angels guys were actually pretty dedicated, they kept coming for about a year.
Crazy thing is sometimes there’d be LEOs and corrections officers on the same mats. No one said shit. Don’t ask don’t tell Lol
TequilaYuen - Mafia, no. But other organized crime.

FreightTrain - Oh wait, when I was a broker in NYC, Joey Merlino's cousin was in my new hire class.
His cousin? On the Merlino side? Was his last name Merlino?
and yeah, op. They aren’t as “dead” as most people think they are. NY still has 5 families although only 4 are really viable anymore. Philly has more guys on the street than they’ve had in years and are more prosperous than any time since the 80s. Boston/Providence is kind of a shitshow, where the power has shifted from Providence to Boston, but they have guys still getting it in in the North End, and Atwells Ave.
Buddy of mine worked for the Russian Mob in SF for a bit.
They would supply fake credit and ID cards to purchase high end HDTVs from retailers. My friend would supposedly receive half the value of each unit in cash upon delivery. This went on for a few summer months until his handlers ghosted him.
